DANIEL CASTRO OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a freshman forward from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 31st. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 9)
Castro continued his torrid streak, lifting St. Thomas to a weekend sweep and the No. 2 seed going into the SCAC Tournament following a league best 11 points on five goals and one assist. In Friday’s 5-1 win over Dallas, Castro struck for a hat-trick and then closed out the regular season with two goals and an assist in the Celts 4-0 win over Austin College on Sunday. The freshman has climbed the SCAC offensive leaderboard down the stretch and now sits second in both goals with 12 and points with 27.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Cole Schultz of Centenary was vital in helping the Gents close the year on a season-high three-game winning streak, striking for the game-winning goal in their 2-1 win over Austin College last Friday and then added and assist in the 6-1 win over Dallas on Sunday. Senior forward Kiran Singh of Colorado College closed out the regular season in style, striking for his third brace of the season and adding two assists for a total of six points in the Tigers’ 6-0 win over Schreiner on Sunday. Sophomore forward Skyler Frey of Southwestern struck for the game-tying goal with just over three minutes remaining on a wonder-strike free kick from 25-yards out securing at least one critical point for the Pirates and eventually setting them up for the win in overtime and punching their ticket into the SCAC Tournament. Senior forward Luis Green of Texas Lutheran tied the program record for goals last Friday night when he scored his 62nd career tally to give TLU a 1-0 lead over Southwestern. It pushed his season total to 13 which leads all SCAC athletes. Senior forward Philip Duenez of Trinity secured the Tigers’ SCAC regular season crown after scoring the game-winning goal in last Friday’s victory over Colorado College on the road.
