KIRAN SINGH OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior forward from Boulder, Colo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Monday, September 6th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 1)
Singh factored in all four Colorado College goals as the Tigers kicked off the 2021 season with back-to-back 2-1 victories. During Saturday’s win over No. 25 Gustavus Adolphus, Singh recorded the second brace of his career. Late in the 80th minute, Singh leveled the score at 1-1 when he put a direct kick into the lower right corner. Just past the midway point of the first overtime, Singh put a direct kick into the top right corner from 23 yards out in the middle of the field for his first ‘Golden Goal’ and the third game winner of his career. A little more than 24 hours later, Singh scored for the third time this season to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead against Lake Forest. After the Foresters leveled the score, Singh got a touch on his brother Sajji’s cross that resulted in freshman midfielder Vincent Luglio’s game winner with a little more than 15 minutes remaining in the game. It marked the second time in his career that Singh had a goal and an assist in the same game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Iseah Hernandez of Schreiner scored the first goal of his collegiate career last weekend in the Mountaineers’ 3-1 loss to Hutson-Tillotson. It marked the opening goal of the 2021 Schreiner season. Sophomore forward Skyler Frey of Southwestern assisted on the game-winning goal in the Pirates’ win over McMurry and then rang up a pair of goals in a 3-2 come from behind victory over Occidental, including the game-winner last Sunday. Senior forward Gabe Salako of St. Thomas finished the weekend with four goals and a pair of game-winners as the Celts opened the season 2-0 for the first time since joining the SCAC. Salako scored the opener in a 6-0 win over Howard Payne and then registered a hat-trick in the opening 22 minutes of a 7-1 win over McMurry. Freshman forward Michael Meese of Trinity tallied five points in two wins last weekend for the Tigers. In the opening fixture for Trinity against Occidental, Meese scored a goal and assisted on another in a 5-2 win and then added the insurance goal in the Tigers’ 2-0 win over Willamette on Sunday.
