CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 19th place, Trinity University leads three SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2021-2022 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup winter standings . Complete Standings
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Trinity has amassed 436.50 points in the standings on the strength of its four NCAA appearances in the fall and five more appearances in the winter, led by the women’s basketball team racking up 73.00 points after advancing to the Division III Regional Finals. The men’s basketball team made it first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2013-14, reaching the second round before being eliminated and racked up 50 total points after finishing tied for 17th. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams sent 12 student-athletes with 11 earning All-American accolades. Both programs recorded top 30 finishes and brought in a combined 100 points. The Tiger indoor track program rounded out the winter performances from Trinity, netting 26.5 points bring the winter total to 249.50.
Colorado College currently sits in 88th with 121 total points. The CC Tigers collected 24 additional points on the strength of a 41st-place finish at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships last month.
Southwestern University is in 172nd place with 50 points, having earned its points with a women’s volleyball run in the NCAA Tournament last fall.
Johns Hopkins leads all of Division III at the completion of the winter championships season with 855.50 points and has a 223.50-point lead over second-place Tufts (632.00). Chicago is in third with 616.50 points, followed by Washington-St. Louis (603.00) and Middlebury (561.50) to round out the top five.
To date, all nine winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women's basketball – Hope; men's basketball – Randolph Macon; Women's Ice Hockey – Middlebury; Men's Ice Hockey – Adrian; Women's Swimming & Diving - Kenyon; Men's Swimming & Diving - Emory; Men's Indoor Track & Field - Wisconsin-Eau Claire; Women's Indoor Track & Field - Loras; Men's Wrestling - Wartburg.
