Ashley Walbrick, Schreiner University, Women's Soccer - Character & Community

ASHLEY WALBRICK OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior forward on the women's soccer team from Boerne, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning November 15.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

“Character & Community, to me, is the type of person that you are on and off the field, in and out of the classroom, and when you’re all alone," said Walbrick.

There are few things that go on at Schreiner University that Ashley Walbrick isn’t involved in. She has spent the past four years as a member of the women’s soccer team, in which she has started in 56 out of 60 career games played.

She is a two-time Schreiner University Dean’s List recipient, a four-time President’s List recipient, and has made the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll three times.

Even with all of that said, her involvement still does not stop there. Ashley is also the Treasurer of Alpha Lambda Delta, a member of Beta Beta Beta, a member of Gamma Sigma Epsilon, a member of the President’s Council, a two-year Resident Assistant, a one-year Senior Resident Assistant, and has also spent all four years on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) with one year serving as the SAAC Vice President and two years serving as the SAAC President.

“The reason I like to be involved on campus and in my community is because I believe it is important for me to leave a strong legacy here at Schreiner University after I graduate," said Walbrick. "I also think it is important to represent Schreiner well within the local community."

Even with all of her involvement on campus, Walbrick still finds time to volunteer and show support within the local Kerrville community.

This year, as the SAAC President, Ashley organized and led the efforts for a Special Olympics fundraiser in which they raised $1,500 and were able to sponsor 20 local Special Olympic athletes. She also took part in the organization of a Make-A-Wish “Letters to Santa” event, participated in a river clean-up with the Women’s Soccer team, and is even working on creating a float for the local Kerrville Holiday Parade.

Ashley Walbrick is the perfect example of a student-athlete who is committed to maintaining high character values and demonstrating servant leadership in everything that she takes part in on campus and in the local community.

“Ashley has been a great asset to the team on the field and in the classroom," said Schreiner head women's coach Ebony Campbell. "Her discipline and willingness to stay involved on campus and in the community says a lot about her character. She is always willing to go above and beyond to exceed expectations. I am so proud of everything she has accomplished thus far, and I know she’ll have a bright future.”
