HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colorado College runners finished 1-2-3 in Sunday mornings first event, the 5000 meters. First-year Elliot Singer (watch post race interview) completed the distance sweep, taking the gold in the 5000 in a time of 18:06.35 after having won the 10000 meters yesterday. Singer is the 11th woman to double up with wins in both events in SCAC championships history but the first since Taylor Stephens of Rhodes College in 2010-11 to take those two events after having won the individual cross country title earlier in the fall. Finishing 2-3 for CC were juniors Claire Quinn and Na'ama Nevo who crossed in 18:20.43 and 18:26.28, respectively. This marked the first time since 2018 (Trinity) that one school has swept the top three places in the 5000.
  • In the first field event of the morning, Trinity swept the top three positions on the awards podium in the triple jump led by first-year Joy Areola who took first place by leaping to a gold medal mark of 11.69 meters (38' 4 1/4") - the fourth-furthest result in SCAC championship history. Sophomore teammate Kyra Stafford was runner-up with a jump of 11.36 meters (37' 3 1/4") and defending champion junior Jordyn White was third with a leap of 10.98 meters (36' 1/4"). This was the first time since Texas Lutheran accomplished the feat in 2014 that one school swept all three medal positions.
  • In the javelin, Southwestern junior Charlotte Kraushaar (watch post event interview) earned gold medal honors with a winning toss of 34.90 meters (114' 6"). She joins Morgan Gilpin (2018) as the only Pirate women to win the event at the conference championship meet. Teammate sophomore Taylor Hubbard, who finished third a year ago, was runner-up this year with a heave of 34.04 meters (111' 8"). Trinity junior Kierra Francois finished third with a toss of 33.79 meters (110' 10").
  • A year after settling for runner-up status, Colorado College sophomore April Kwan (watch post event interview) took a step up the awards podium and took gold in the high jump by clearing 1.57 meters (5' 1 3/4"). Her teammate, first-year Maya Mossanen, finished second with a jump of 1.52 meters (4' 11 3/4") and Schreiner teammates Gabby Ivarra and Melissa Landon tied for third with a clearance of 1.47 meters (4' 9 3/4").
  • Southwestern sophomore Tiamara Hill-Johnson (watch post event interview) just missed the conference record as she repeated as champion in the discus, tossing the apparatus 42.52 meters (139' 6") on her second attempt - the second-longest throw in SCAC championship meet history. TLU first-year Julissa Rodriguez was second with a throw of 36.96 meters (121' 3") and her teammate senior Dejah Carr earned her fourth straight all-SCAC performance in the event, finishing third with a best attempt of 36.66 meters (120' 3").
  • In the 100 meter hurdles, Trinity junior Jordyn White defended her title, sprinting to a 15.60 finish. TLU first-year Taylor Norrell was second with a time of 15.72 and Schreiner senior Gabby Ivarra took her second bronze of the meet with a 15.89 finish.
  • After the teams 4x100 squad won gold on Saturday, St. Thomas' first-year Christina Stinson earned the Celts their first-ever individual SCAC title, taking the gold in the 400 meters. Stinson crossed the line in 57.75, the fastest winning time since 2012. Colorado College's senior Bea Pierrepont was second in 59.00 flat and Trinity first-year CC Gray was third in 59.07.
  • Colorado College junior Shekinah Oloyede (watch post race interview) became the first CC woman to ever win the 100 meters, breaking the tape in 12.16 - the fifth fastest time in SCAC championship meet history. St. Thomas first-year Ny'Cierra Hinton was second in 12.40 and TLU first-year Sirena Gomez came in third in 12.45.
  • CC junior Kendall Accetta (watch post race interview) picked up her second gold of the meet, taking top honors in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:46.62. The Tigers went 1-2 in the event with fellow junior Clare Quinn earning the second step on the podium with a 4:49.22 runner-up finish. Trinity sophomore Ellie Catron, last year's runner-up in the event, was third in 4:54.61.
  • The meet culminated with 4x400 relay and the Southwestern foursome of seniors Erica Robuck and Keamber McCracken as well as first-years Arden Neff and Lilly Van Meter crossed the line at 4:03.04 (watch post race interview), giving the Pirate program its first-ever win in the event. The Trinity squad was second in 4:03.41 and Texas Lutheran completed the all-conference performers with a 4:04.61 third-place finish.
