SHREVEPORT, La. - Dana Dunson has been named interim Centenary women's basketball head coach, Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr has announced.
Dunson, a native of Bloomington, Ill., takes over for former head coach Jason Schmitz who left for another position last month after three seasons at the helm. Dunson has been on staff the past three seasons thus he is no stranger to the Ladies' program.
Dunson is a graduate of both Parkland College & Drake University and his former coaching stints include serving as the head boys coach at Metcalf Lab School, Bay City Catholic High School head boys coach and athletic director, head boys coach at Loyola College Prep, and heasd girls coach at Woodlawn High School, both in Shreveport. "To go from where you are to where you want to be, you have to have a dream, a goal and be willing to work for it," said Dunson. "I have realized a good coach can change a game, but a great coach can change a life. I see other people going to the office, l get to coach. I know I've been blessed."
"Just in the last few weeks that I have been working with these young ladies, I have seen them become a basketball team that is excited to play and win lots of games this year," said Dunson.
The Ladies will open their 2021-22 season on Friday, Nov. 5 at home versus the LeTourneau University YellowJackets at 7 p.m. in the Gold Dome.
