INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Trinity University’s 200-yard medley relay squad turned in an All-American performance to highlight the SCAC performances the performances through the opening two days of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
The quartet of Michael Kohl, Kendal Southwell, Caleb Manifold, and Nolan Anthony raced to a new school record in the event with a time of 1:28.91 and secured the eighth spot in the finals. In the finals, the relay group raced to a 1:28.70 and finished eighth to earn All-American status.
In the individual events from the opening day of competition, Kohl highlighted the performances, just missing out on the consolation final in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.33 to finish 18th in prelims. In that same event, Anthony finished 29th with a time of 20.52 and teammate Nathan Early was 47th hitting the wall in 20.73.
Kohl stood out individually once again on day two, qualifying 11th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.00 and then finished 16th in the consolation final, hitting the wall in 48.88 to claim Honorable Mention All-American honors. Manifold finished 24th with a time of 48.68.
Trinity’s Early rounded out the individual performances from day two, finishing 30th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:39.94.
In relay action from day two, Trinity’s Kohl, Anthony, Andrew Crosley and Manifold set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:20.80 and made the consolation final. In the consolation final, the quartet swam to a 16th place finish which earned them All-American Honorable Mention.
Finally, Kohl, Southwell, Maifold and Early raced to a 15th-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay prelims with a time of 3:20.67. The quartet returned to swim in the consolation final and earned All-American Honorable Mention with another 15th-place finish.
Following the opening two days of the NCAA Championships, Trinity is currently in 18th-place with a total team score of 29 points.
