NORMAN, Okla. - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released the 2022 Division III PING All-Region honorees Tuesday afternoon, and four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) men's golfers were recognized.
Centenary’s Richard Polan, Southwestern’s Christian Rodriguez, Texas Lutheran’s Chase Maus and Trinity’s Jacob Mason, all ranked in the top-80 in the country in the most recent GolfStat rankings, earned All-Region honors. Rodriguez, Maus and Mason all got invited to participate in the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championships this week.
Polan, finished third at last month’s SCAC Championship, closed out his junior year with an adjusted scoring average of 73.70. A two-time All-SCAC performer, Polan also earned the prestigious SCAC Elite 19 award in 2021.
Rodriguez, the SCAC Individual Medalist, who led Southwestern to the team title at last month’s conference championships is the highest ranked individual in the league, currently ranked 30th with an adjusted scoring average of 72.81. He was also the highest SCAC finisher at the NCAA Championships, just missing out on the cut after posting a two-day total of 154 to post +11 and finish tied for 69th.
Maus had an excellent season with an adjusted average score of 72.83 and is a repeat honoree having earned accolades in 2021. Maus finished 15th in April's SCAC Championships and was named an All-Tournament selection. Maus tallied four top five finishes this spring - including two runner-up finishes in the Texas Cup and West Region Invitational. In 10 events this season, including the fall, Maus had a total of six top five finishes including a win at the Crusader Invitational in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Mason becomes the seventh different Tiger to earn the PING All-Region nod in the west over the last eight seasons, joining senior DJ Springer and junior Daniel Nunez to represent the three active players with at least one selection during their respective careers. Nunez's selection also came in his rookie campaign, which later turned into an All-America nod as well.
During the spring portion of this year's competition, Mason has averaged a two-over performance through 13 rounds of action, while he collected a pair of top-five finishes between the Texas Cup and the West Region Invitational, which led to his berth as an individual into the 2022 NCAA III Men's Golf National Championship this week.
