MILES NORDLING OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore on the men's swimming and diving team from St. Louis Park, Minn., has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 24.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Miles and the rest of the CC swim team serve the community by teaching younger kids how to do it in their Little Cats program. She pointed out the strengths of character and culture from CC while going through the recruiting process, which helped draw her to the program and university.

“I really like being a part of the Little Catz program because I like being able to have a larger impact in the community of Colorado Springs,” Nordling said. “Sometimes at a small school like CC, you only feel a part of the school community. Reaching out into the larger community in Colorado Springs has helped me feel at home and connected with where I chose to come to school.”

The Little Catz program is free for kids to learn water safety. It is an excellent opportunity for families in the community to ensure they have access to swim lessons and water safety.

“Without the program, there are a lot of kids in the community that wouldn’t have access to water safety classes,” Nordling said. “Being able to offer that for free through the school is a great way to serve the community with the experience our swim team provides.”
