ADAM PEAVY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior utility player on the baseball team from Houston, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning January 27.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Adam had a breakout season last year for the Bulldogs, earning multiple All-Region honors as a designated player for the Bulldogs as he led Texas Lutheran in numerous offensive categories in his sophomore season.

While he’s worked to steadily improve his play on the diamond, he has had the chance to work as a camp counselor at Laity Lodge Youth Camp in Leakey, Texas, over the past two summers,  in what he states has been a life changing experience. The ultimate goal of the camp is to help kids understand more about who God is in their lives and really help them grasp God's story.

“We love connecting with these kids and as a counselor, I have had a handful of kids come up to me and talk to me individually about their faith and have said that this camp has helped them grow in their faith and understand God's story personally and in their lives as they leave camp,” said Peavy. “We want them to continue that outside of camp and that's what I strive to do as a mentor and counselor.”

When asked about the experience Peavy stated, “These past two summers have been life changing for me and have really helped me grow in my faith with God and have helped me counsel kids in continuing their faith journey with God as well. I will be working there again this year in a higher role that includes working with the counselors and other staff in creating beneficial talks that will help these kids understand God's story and help them in their spiritual journey to connect and know God more.”

In addition to his work with the camp, Adam has joined his TLU Baseball teammates in community service efforts on TLU’s campus-wide Day of the Dogs day of community service in a variety of different projects over the last three years.

Through his work on and off the field, Adam is starting to grow not only as an athlete but as a man and in his spiritual journey with God.
