SCAC Makes History with Three NCAA Baseball Bids

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 64-team NCAA Div. III Men’s Baseball Tournament bracket was revealed Monday and for the first time in conference history, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) will be represented by three teams. NCAA Release | Interactive Bracket

SCAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion, Trinity University received the league’s automatic bid, while Concordia University (Texas) and McMurry University each received one of the 22 at-large bids.

The 64-team field will be broken out into 16, four-team regional sites. The four-team regionals will use a double-elimination format. Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically.

This is the second-straight and fifth time in the last six national tournaments that the SCAC has placed two or more teams in the NCAA regionals. It is the 11th time in league history that two or more teams advanced to the NCAA regionals (1996, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025) and this current run is the most successful stretch in conference history.

The SCAC is one of just eight conferences in all of NCAA Division III with three or more teams represented in the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Trinity (36-7) on the heels of capturing the program’s 15th overall baseball championship earlier this month, will open NCAA play against Huntingdon (22-19) in Marshall, Texas.  The Hawks earned the automatic qualifying bid out of the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) with a win over Belhaven back on May 5th. Historically, this will mark the first time these two conferences have met in NCAA postseason play. The winner of the Trinity and Huntingdon will take on the winner of host ETBU (28-14) and Millsaps (29-13) in the winner’s bracket semifinal.

Trinity enters this weekend’s NCAA Tournament with an overall tournament record of 43-32 and three trips to the Div. III Baseball College World Series, including the 2016 National Championship.

Concordia (Texas) (33-11) is scheduled to play Oswego St. (27-13) in Bridgewater, Mass., to open NCAA play. The Lakers earned a Pool-C at-large bid out of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). The SCAC is 2-0 all-time versus teams out of the SUNYAC in NCAA Tournament action. The winner of the Concordia and Oswego St. will take on the winner of host Bridgewater St. (30-13) and Endicott (38-4) in the winner’s bracket semifinal.

This will mark the second-straight and eighth overall NCAA Tournament appearance for the Tornados.

McMurry (32-11) is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and first since 2008. The War Hawks will travel to La Verne, Calif., to open up NCAA play against Pomona-Pitzer (30-15). The Sagehens earned a Pool-C at-large bid out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The SCAC is 6-14 all-time versus teams from the SCIAC in NCAA Postseason action, including a 1-3 record against Pomona-Pitzer. The winner of the McMurry and Pomona-Pitzer will take on the winner of La Verne (34-9) and Whitworth (29-16).

Winners of the 16 regional tournaments will qualify for eight, best-of-three series at the super regionals, Friday-Saturday, May 23-24. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, Friday-Thursday, May 30-June 5, 2025.
