GEORGETOWN, Texas – St. Thomas exploded for five runs in the second inning and held on to defeat Texas Lutheran, 5-3, and capture the program’s second SCAC Softball Tournament Title in the last three years from Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University. The Celts captured the SCAC crown going a perfect 3-0, defeating Trinity and TLU twice over the course of three days.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening frame, St. Thomas broke through in the second with five runs as Gabby Davila recorded and RBI walk, Rebecca Archibald ripped a two RBI double, Jaelyn Simmons smashed and RBI single and Chloe Bennett closed out the inning with an RBI single to right.
- The five runs scored in the second inning are tied for the most in a single inning TLU has given up all season.
- Texas Lutheran pushed back in the fifth after a Caelee Clark RBI walk, Annie Kay doubled up the middle to score a pair of Bulldogs and cut the Celts lead to 5-3.
- St. Thomas however would not let TLU even threaten in the final two innings as Victoria Sossaman relived Allison Hughes for the final 2.1 innings, not allowing a single hit or base runner to deliver the Celts a 5-3 win.
