CHRISTIAN EVERETT OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (TEXAS), a sophomore second baseman on the softball team from Coahoma, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Female Athlete of the Week for the week beginning March 31.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Christian Everett is a second-year student at Concordia University Texas (CTX) majoring in Psychology. As a member of the CTX Softball team, president of SAAC, and a leader for FCA at CTX, Christian has already made a significant impact both on and off the field, embodying the values of leadership, community, and faith that define the CTX experience. In this interview, Christian shares the reasons she chose CTX to pursue her academic and athletic dreams.

“I chose CTX because I really believe that Concordia has a faith-based community,” Christian says. “Being a part of a team that loves God and lives like Christ daily was something that is very important to me.”

Being a student-athlete at CTX has shaped Christian’s approach to leadership. “My coaches and teammate really instilled a championship mindset by always reminding me to never settle for anything less than my best,” she explains. “This is something that we do throughout our daily life, not just on the field to better ourselves and each other.”

Christian takes on many leadership roles at Concordia both on and off the field. “I’ve taken on the role of the President of the Student Athletic Advisory Community, and I am also a leader of Fellowship In Christian Athletes here at CTX,” she shares. “Both of those organizations hope to engage and connect athletes throughout our campus community and provide athletes with opportunities.”

When asked how she defines leadership, Christian’s response reflects her strong leadership philosophy. “I define leadership as a not ‘one size fits all’ concept,” she says. “Action led leadership is how I define my role on the softball when I first came to Concordia. Now I realize the importance of being more vocal in my leadership, not just leading by my actions but in my words as well, allowing my teammates to put more trust into me.”

Christian’s time so far at Concordia University Texas has been marked by growth, community, and a commitment to her faith. Whether it’s through softball, SAAC, or academics, she continues to embrace opportunities to lead.
