SUWANEE, Ga. – University of St. Thomas junior forward Angel Johnson was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the week of January 6th, it was announced on Tuesday by D3hoops.com.
Johnson was outstanding over the holiday break in helping the Celts extend their winning streak to five and improve to a perfect 2-0 in league play after securing a road win at Colorado College last Saturday and knocking off UC Santa Cruz on Sunday. In two games, Johnson averaged 24.0 points on 46.7 percent shooting, including a red hot 50.0 percent from three-point range and added 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. In the win over the Tigers, Johnson poured in a career-high 30 points, connecting on 8-for-15 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two assists and created two steals.
Johnson currently sits among the league leaders in several statistical categories, including second in steals (28), third in assists (41) and sixth in free throws made (45).
Earlier this week, Johnson was also named SCAC Player of the Week.
The Team of the Week is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, in its 28th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.
Johnson is the second SCAC men’s student-athlete to earn D3Hoops.com National TOTW recognition this season, joining Schreiner’s Kamden Ross who was honored back in November.
