SCRANTON, Pa. -- Trinity University Women's Soccer falls to William Smith in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The Tigers suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to William Smith. Trinity managed six shots in the match, with only one on target from Bri Werner. Goalkeeper Lauryn Lewis delivered a solid performance with five saves, concluding her career with 135 total saves, placing her fifth all-time in program history. Also, Lewis totaled 29 career shutouts, ranking second in the program's history.
The Rundown
The Tigers came out aggressively, with Michaela Bosco firing a shot from beyond the 18-yard box just wide to the left. Only 30 seconds later, Abby Schneider found herself inside the penalty area and unleashed a strike that narrowly missed to the right. William Smith countered with four attempts of their own, but none were on target. In the 33rd minute, Bri Werner blasted a long-range shot on goal, forcing a save from the Heron goalkeeper. William Smith managed their first shot on target late in the half, but Lewis easily handled the attempt. The Tigers got one final look before halftime, but the score remained locked at 0-0 as the teams headed to the locker room.
The second half began quietly until the 55th minute, when Lewis made another excellent save on a shot from the edge of the box. Moments later, the Herons capitalized, netting the match's only goal. For the remainder of the game, William Smith's defense held the Tigers to one shot and ran out the clock to secure the 1-0 victory.
Season Accomplishments
The Tigers wrapped up their 2024 season with an impressive 18-2-3 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in SCAC play. Highlighting their success, the team reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2016. Along the way, Trinity earned six SCAC Player of the Week awards and placed 13 players on the All-SCAC team. Kylie Harris made history by being named both SCAC Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year—the first time this feat has been accomplished in conference history. Additionally, the Tigers' coaching staff was honored as the SCAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Trinity's all-time NCAA Playoff record now stands at 38-21-14.
