The five straight conference titles equals the five won by DePauw University from 2002 to 2006. The championship is the ninth overall for the Trinity women's golf program, which breaks the tie with Southwestern University for most in conference history.
After her record-breaking performance in round two yesterday, TU sophomore Lauren Huddleston brought home her first individual SCAC win. This marks Trinity's fourth individual SCAC champion in a row, two of the champions are still competing at Trinity. Senior Alejandra Sanchez De La Fuente Molino won in 2023, and junior Jessica Mason won in 2024. Huddleston shot a three-round score of 239 (81-72-86) to edge her two teammates in second and third.
Right behind Huddleston in the individual championship was Mason coming 240 (76-84-80) for the weekend. Just one stroke back from second was Sanchez De La Fuente Molino shooting 241 (82-77-82) on the weekend to finish third. The 1-2-3 finish for Trinity marked just the sixth time in league history teammates have finished first, second and third at the conference championship. The First Team all-SCAC honor for Sanchez De La Fuente Molino was her third, making her one of just 20 players in league history to earn all-conference First Team accolades three or more times in a career.
Senior Carmen Kennett earned a top-10 finish as well, finishing ninth with a score of 254 (87-80-87). Senior Kate Schulle came in twelfth with her score of 264 (89-87-88) to put all five Tigers in the top 12 individually.
Huddleston, Mason, and Sanchez De La Fuente Molino all earned a spot on the all-SCAC First Team by finishing in the top five, while Kennett earned Second Team All-SCAC honors by finishing in the top 10, and Schulle was named All-SCAC Honorable Mention.
The Tigers, who led by 40 shots entering the final day, cruised to a team score of 335 on Tuesday of the three-day event and finished at 974 (+110), comfortably ahead of second-place Southwestern, who finished at 1021 (+157). Juniors Sloan Panter (83-78-83--244) and Rachel Harris (75-89-85--249) earned First and Second Team all-SCAC honors, respectively, the lead the Pirates.
St Thomas, who received an all-SCAC Second Team performance from sophomore Emma Cook (84-88-79--251) came in third at 1042 (+178) followed by University of Dallas in fourth at 1044 (+180). Dallas' senior Kimberly Burch finished tied for fourth with a three-day total of 244, and joined Sanchez De La Fuente Molina as one of 20 players with three or more First Team all-SCAC honors in a career. Cook and Burch tied for the low round of the day on Tuesday at 79.
Schriener University (1064; +200) and Texas Lutheran University (1098; +234) came in fifth and sixth, respectively. Centenary College (1171; +307) and McMurry University (1173; +309) rounded out the field, coming in seventh and eighth. Concordia University (Texas) did not bring enough golfers to score.
The SCAC will send its conference champion to the NCAA tournament via an automatic berth, with Trinity earning the distinction and trip to Kingsmill Resort & Spa in Williamsburg, Va., for this year's championship, May 13-16. Other conference teams and individuals will await word of at-large selections when the NCAA makes that announcement on Monday, May 5.
