AUSTIN, TEXAS – Concordia University Texas is pleased to announce that Matt Wallis, current Head Women's Basketball Coach and Associate Athletics Director, has been appointed Interim Director of Athletics.
Wallis has more than two decades of experience in collegiate athletics, including 12 years at Concordia Texas. Since joining the University in 2013, he has led the women's basketball program to multiple conference tournament appearances and holds the record as the winningest coach in program history. Beyond his coaching achievements, Wallis has been instrumental in fostering a culture of integrity, perseverance, and teamwork among student-athletes.
In addition to his success on the court, Wallis has served as Associate Athletics Director, contributing to departmental operations, compliance, and strategic initiatives. His leadership has positively influenced student-athletes' academic and personal development, ensuring their success beyond athletics.
As Interim Director of Athletics, Wallis will focus on enhancing fundraising efforts—including the newly established Purple and Gold Legacy Club—strengthening enrollment initiatives, and prioritizing the well-being of both students and coaches.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue working alongside our dedicated coaches and student-athletes," said Wallis. "Together, we will build on our strong foundation and further Concordia Texas' tradition of excellence in athletics."
Current Director of Athletics Ronda Seagraves, who previously announced her retirement, expressed her full confidence in Wallis' leadership:
