SUWANEE, Ga. -- The D3Football.com Team of the Week for week five of the 2024 season was announced on Tuesday and a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) athletes were recognized for their performances on Saturday October 5th.
Sophomore linebacker Vance Feuerbacher of Centenary and senior placekicker Joaquin Rodriguez of Texas Lutheran were both recognized at the national level this week.
Feuerbacher had a stellar night for the Gents on Saturday in their 35-14 home conference win over Lyon College, leading the team in tackles with 10 solo tackles (13 total tackles). The sophomore also had a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown and had one pass breakup.
Earlier this week, Feuerbacher was also named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Rodriguez was one of a number of special teams standouts for Texas Lutheran in their 43-34 victory over Austin College on Saturday, making all three of his field goal attempts and accounting for 13 points in total. The San Antonio native connected on kicks from 26, 40, and 37 yards giving the Bulldogs nine points that proved to be the difference in Saturday's game. The three field goals fell one shy of his career-best outing last season that saw him make four in a single-game. Rodriguez would add three touchbacks on kickoff, kicking for a total of 557 yards on nine kickoffs.
This is Rodriguez's second D3football.com Team of the Week honor of his career after being named to the team last October for his four field goal performance against Howard Payne.
This week marks the third time this year, the SCAC has landed multiple athletes on the D3Football.com Team of the Week and the sixth and seventh different athlete to be recognized at the national level. Last week, Austin College placekicker Caleb Balderas was honored, in week three, Centenary’s D’Qavion Lemons and McMurry’s Jax Rodriguez earned a spot on the team and then in the inaugural week of the 2024 season, Centenary’s Jacob Wilson and Texas Lutheran’s Tristain Smith garnered accolades.
