Kylie Zeller, Centenary College, Women's Soccer - Character & Community

KYLIE ZELLER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior defender/midfielder on the women's soccer team from Denham Springs, La., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 9.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Kylie Zeller is a model collegiate student-athlete and the ideal candidate for any award that honors one’s accomplishments on and off the field.

Kylie has played in 50 career matches for the Ladies, starting 45, and has scored four goals and added an assist for nine career points. But, her story is so much more than her impressive statistics on the soccer field.

"Kylie's leadership on and off the field has been nothing short of inspiring,” said Centenary head coach Morgan Dorsey.

“In her first year as captain, she has shown an unwavering commitment to her team, earning the respect of her teammates through her hard work, determination, and the way she leads by example every single day. Beyond the field, her dedication to serving her community reflects her selflessness and genuine care for others."

Kylie has been named to both the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll twice and the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team twice in her career and is extremely active on campus and in the Shreveport-Bossier community.

“Since I've been at Centenary, I have volunteered at a few places around the community,” said Zeller.

“Two of my favorites have been at the nearby elementary school and retirement home. I have learned so much from both of these experiences and have met so many amazing people along the way.”

“Being a student-athlete at the college level can seem overwhelming at times, but I have found that with managing my time and keeping my priorities straight, I'm able to get my education while also playing the sport that I love. It has taught me a lot about being proactive and staying focused which is going to stay with me for a long time.”

"I committed to Centenary because it gave me the opportunity to play soccer while also getting an education from a very respected college. Many graduate schools that I have looked at speak very highly of Centenary and it makes me proud to know that I am a part of that!”

“Soccer has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. It's helped shape who I am today by building my character and fueling my work ethic. Soccer has taught me a lot about dedication and collaboration, which has impacted me outside of the sport in many ways.”

“In academics, setting goals for myself has led me to work hard to achieve them. Whether it be keeping a certain GPA or aiming for a certain number of goals throughout the soccer season, the process of setting measurable objectives has helped me push myself in both areas.”

“It honestly means a lot to be picked for this award because it has such a good meaning behind it. I'm honored that people think I exhibit the traits that go along with this award and I'm thankful to be given the opportunity to make a difference!”
