HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colorado College senior Elliot Singer (watch post race interview) earned her third career win in the 10,000 meters, taking top honors with a finish of 38:49.91. She becomes the first woman in SCAC championship meet history to win three career 10K titles as she had shared the honor of two-time winner with Eileen Schilling of Centre (2004 and 2005), Taylor Stephens of Rhodes (2010 and 2011) and Katie Sandfort of Colorado College (2016 and 2017). CC runners competed the podium sweep for the third consecutive year as junior Alison Mueller-Hickler (last year's champion in the event) and senior Britt Helgaas took second and third with times of 38:50.94 and 38.52.39, respectively.
- Junior Savanna Danner of McMurry (watch post race interview) took top honors in the 3,000 steeplechase, crossing the line in a time of 11:41.22. First-year Aliyah Fonseca of Texas Lutheran made her inaugural championship meet appearance a memorable one, taking second place with a time of 11:58.08. Junior Madison Soultanova of McMurry finished third with a time of 12:10.20.
- After the initial two track events, action returned to the field where McMurry's Elizabeth Cunningham (watch post race interview) took top honors in the hammer throw, pitching the apparatus 46.81 meters (153' 7") - the seventh-longest toss in SCAC championship meet history. The senior had won the hammer event in her previous two appearances at the ASC championship meet. Her teammate, sophomore Tori Colman, took silver with a toss of 46.67 meters (153' 1") and sophomore Rachel Bell of Trinity earned bronze with an effort of 44.87 meters (147' 3") - her second consecutive third-place finish at the conference meet.
- Sophomore Kylie Flippin of McMurry (watch post race interview) kept the War Hawks' dominance in the field events rolling, earning gold in the high jump with a clearance of 1.57 meters (5' 1 3/4"). Sharing second place honors were a pair of freshman - Gabrielle Malagarie of Centenary and Sophia Ortiz of Trinity - who both cleared 1.52 meters (4' 11 3/4") with the same amount of misses.
- In the final field event of the day, Trinity senior Joy Areola (watch post race interview) made it a career sweep of the triple jump, earning her fourth straight win in the event at the conference meet and making her the only woman in league history to win the triple jump four times. Her winning leap of 12.05 meters (39' 6 1/2") fell just short of her record distance from last season but is still the second-longest leap in conference history. Sophomore Ella Lewis of Southwestern finished second with an effort of 11.35 meters (37' 2 3/4") and sophomore Ciandra Carrico of Trinity reached 10.71 meters (35' 1 3/4") with her jump to finish third a year after finishing as runner-up to Areola.
- The remaining track events during the afternoon session were all preliminaries (results found here), setting up an action packed day of finals in the 100-hurdles, 400 meters, 100 meters, 800 meters, 400 meter hurdles and 200 meters - in addition to the 5,000 meters, 1,500 meters and the two team relays (4x1 and 4x4).
- Among the highlights from Saturday's preliminaries, the SCAC meet record was set in the 100-meter hurdles, as senior Danya Selber of Trinity finished with a time of 13.96 and shattered the former mark of Birmingham-Southern all-American Tiarra Goode from the 2012 meet (14.36).
