Colorado College's Tomlinson and McMurry's Long Headline D3hoops.com All-Region Team

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Colorado College senior Zoë Tomlinson was named D3hoops.com Region 10 Player of the Year, while McMurry University Head Coach Drew Long was selected as the Regional Coach of the Year to headline four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) student-athletes to earn All-Region honors it was announced on Tuesday. Complete Release

Tomlinson was the lone SCAC D3hoops.com Region 10 First Team honoree, while Concordia University’s (Tex.) Destiny Mathews, McMurry University’s Emily Holland and Texas Lutheran University’s Kailee Mulkey all secured Second Team accolades.

Tomlinson, making her second-straight appearance on the All-Region 10 First Team, led the Tigers to a program record 23 wins and their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. She led the team with 22.6 points and 13.7 rebounds per game. 

The New York native became the all-time leading rebounder in CC and SCAC history with 1,280 career boards and is currently second in program history with 1,696 career points. 
 
Tomlinson was named the SCAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year and was also named a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, given to the best player in Division III.

Her honor marks the third time in the last four seasons an SCAC athlete has been honored as the Region 10 Player of the Year by D3hoops.com, joining Trinity’s Hailey Coleman who secured the title in 2021-22 and the Tigers’ Ashlyn Milton who won the award in 2022-23.  

Mathews, a graduate senior from Palestine, Texas, was named Second Team All-Region after securing First Team All-SCAC honors last month. She finished second in the SCAC with 22.2 points per game, and fourth with 9.9 rebounds per game and 2.6 steals per game. Mathews also recorded 10 double-doubles with season highs of 38 points (twice) and 18 rebounds as both marked program-highs by a single player in over a decade. On the season, Mathews was named the SCAC Player of the three times this season and was named the first ever Tornado to be named the USBWA National Player of the Week. Her 510 points were the seventh most, her 22.2 ppg was the third most, her 227 rebounds were the fourth most, and her 9.9 rbg were the sixth most in a single season in program history.

Holland, a senior from Mansfield, Texas, earned Second Team accolades after helping lead McMurry to a historic season. She led the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game on 42.9 percent shooting and added 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. Her 14.0 points per game were good enough for 10th in the SCAC. A First Team All-SCAC selection, Holland led the War Hawks to its first 20-plus win season since 2008-09 and the most wins (23) since McMurry posted 25 wins during the 2007-08 season.

Mulkey, a senior from New Braunfels, Texas is making her debut on the D3hoops.com All-Region team. A three-time First Team All-SCAC honoree, Mulkey led Texas Lutheran in scoring with 12.9 points and steals with 2.8 per game and finished with an average of 6.9 rebounds per game, leading all SCAC guards. She scored in double figures in 21 of her 29 outings including three 20-point games along with a team-high six double-doubles. Nationally, Mulkey finished 27th in steals (80) this season, with her 80 steals ranking the second most in a single-season in program history.

Long was named Region 10 Coach of the Year after leading McMurry to a historic season. He guided the War Hawks to a 23-6 record, the program’s first 20-plus win season since 2008-09 and the most wins since McMurry won 25 during the 2007-08 season. He also saw the program earn an at-large (Pool C) bid into the NCAA Tournament, the first appearance for McMurry since the 2008. Long and the War Hawks picked up wins over Cal Lutheran and SCAC foe Texas Lutheran to advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000 before ultimately falling to Gustavus Adolphus.

Long’s selection as Region 10 Coach of the Year in the second for the SCAC in the last four years, joining Trinity’s Cameron Hill who was honored with the distinction back during the 2021-22 season.

Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams. The teams will be released March 22, at the national championship game.
