SCAC Places Two in Top 40 of Final Fall Learfield Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed two member institutions in the top 40 in the 2024-25 Division III LEARFIELD Sports Directors’ Cup final fall standings it was announced on February 1st. Complete Standings 

Trinity University currently sits in 17th place to lead all SCAC member institutions, while Colorado College is 36th and Texas Lutheran University is tied for 101st to round out the league schools in the fall standings.   

The SCAC is one of just 10 NCAA Division III Conferences (Coast-to-Coast, Liberty League, MIAA, NESCAC, NEWMAC, ODAC, SCIAC, UAA & WIAC) with two or more member institutions ranked in the top 40 of the fall standings.

The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

The Trinity Tigers have totaled 226 points in the overall standings, based on NCAA postseason competition led by the women’s soccer team racking up 73 points after advancing to the Division III quarterfinals for the first time 2016. The men’s soccer team earned 64 points following a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament and a trip to the third round, while the Tiger Volleyball team also racked up 64 points after advancing to its fifth-straight regional final. The Trinity football team reached the NCAA Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year to earn 25 points in the NACDA standings.  


Colorado College racked up 155.50 points behind a historic season from the Women’s Cross Country team. The CC women’s cross country team earned 73.5 points after finishing sixth at the NCAA Championships last fall, the best finish in program history and tied for the best finish in SCAC history. The CC men’s cross country team secured 32 points behind a top 25 finish at nationals, while the men’s soccer program advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season and claimed 50 points in the NACDA standings.

Rounding out the SCAC teams in the fall standings was Texas Lutheran University who is tied for 101st place with 50 points. The Bulldogs captured a share of the SCAC Football Title last fall and earned a bid into the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2014 to secure 50 points after advancing to the second round.  

Johns Hopkins has the lead in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Div. III fall standings with 495.50 points, while Middlebury sits in second (348.00) and Washington & Lee is third overall with 343.50 points.

To date, seven fall NCAA Div. III championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – MIT; men’s cross country – UW-La Crosse; field hockey – Middlebury College; women's volleyball – Juniata College; women’s soccer – WashU; men’s soccer – Amherst; football – North Central (IL).
