Trinity Women Extend Lead after Second Day of SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship

Trinity leads with 372 points while Colorado College is in second place with 250 points and Southwestern University sits in third with 212 points. 

Trinity's Audrey Jacobson repeated as winner of the 500-yard freestyle, becoming the ninth swimmer in league history to win the event in back-to-back seasons. She is the eighth different swimmer from Trinity to earn gold in the event and it marked the 12th time in the last 13 years a TU Tiger has taken top honors. The individual win was the third for Jacobson in her career and her winning time of 5:01.21 is the sixth-fastest in the 500-yard free in meet history. A pair of Colorado College swimmers rouned out the all-conference team as Alyssa Tunggal finished second in 5:11.93 and her teammate, Kylie Spalt, was third in 5:12.15. 500-Yard Freestyle Interview

All-American Neely Burns of Trinity defended her title in the 200-yard individual medley for the second consecutive year, touching first this year in a time of 2:03.15 - good for an NCAA 'B' cut and the third-fastest in championship meet history. Burns is the fifth woman in league history to win the event three times in a career and the fourth to win three straight. The win was her seventh career individual win, making her the current active leader among all swimmers (male or female) and tied for 10th all-time among all women. Her teammate, Erica Peterson, finished second in a time of 2:09.32 and Southwestern's Ellie Samples was third in 2:10.99. 200-Yard IM Interview

Sophomore Amy Benson of Trinity kept the Tiger momentum going, collecting her second consecutive win in the 50-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 23.31 seconds, which earned her an NCAA 'B' cut time and a tie for the second-fastest swim in SCAC championship meet history. Benson became just the seventh female swimmer in league history to win the 50 in back-to-back seasons and the individual gold was the fourth overall for her career. Trinity closed out the evening with a gold medal performance in the 400-yard medley relay - the sixth consecutive year the TU Tigers have taken top honors in the event. The quartet of Jacobson, Burns, Ortiz and Benson posted a winning time of 3:50.44, which was good for a NCAA 'B' cut and the fourth-fastest finish in conference meet history.
