SUWANEE, Ga. – TLU senior punter Cameron Welch has been named a Fourth Team All-American it was announced last week by D3Football.com.
Welch is TLU's second punter to be named an All-American and first at the Division-III level. The first punter was Dennis Ortmann in 1973 and 1974. Texas Lutheran now has 292 All-American recognitions with TLU football owning 100 of those recognitions.
Welch was named to the D3football.com All-American Fourth Team. Welch earns the All-America honor after finishing second in the country and setting a TLU and SCAC record with 44.9 yards per punt. Welch's 44.9 yard average broke Harold Anderson's single-season record (43.0) that had stood since 1962. Welch graduates as TLU's career record holder in punting average (40.8), surpassing Dillon Koop (39.7), and finishes second in punts (158) and total punting yards (6,450).
Welch has been named to All-SCAC First Team and D3football.com All-Region 3 First Team and was selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Special Teams Player of the Year.
TLU finished the 2024 season sixth in the nation in net punting (39.37). Fourteen of Welch's 41 punts in 2024 landed inside the 20 and he only recorded two touchbacks for the entire season.
Welch averaged over 50-yards in two games this season (50.7 vs. Austin, 54.0 vs. Lyon) and averaged over 45 yards in seven of the Bulldogs 11 games this season. He was named SCAC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season. Thirteen of Welch's 41 punts were over 50 yards (.317), including a season-long of 64 yards against Lyon.
Welch was instrumental in flipping the field and giving the Texas Lutheran defense great field position all season long. Welch is the 171st All-American selection in SCAC Football history.
