EDMUND DAVIS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a freshman from Bellevue, Wash., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, October 7 to Saturday, October 15. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 2)
Davis' five victories were instrumental in two team wins over Nebraska Wesleyan this weekend. On Friday, he won the 1000 free (10:18.13), and split 22.20 on the winning 200 freestyle relay. On Saturday, Davis was 3 for 3 with wins in the 200 free (1:47.03), 200 fly (2:03.87), and 500 free (4:48.65).
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Sam Davis of Southwestern was third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.35, third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.42 and won the 200 IM in 1:58.92 at the Southwestern Duals over the weekend. First-year Monty Cortez of McMurry was part of several first place finishes in a pair of weekend dual meets at Centenary. He was on two winning relays - swimming backstroke leadoff (58.31) in the 400 Medley Relay and a lead-off 52.4 in the 400 Free Relay - and individually won the 400 IM (4:42.73) and the 200 back (2:08.45). He also swam the 200 Fly (221.22) - posting personal records in all three events. Cortez also won the 100 backstroke at 59.05. Junior Antonio Barbee of Centenary had an impressive weekend for the Gents in a pair of home dual conference meets versus McMurry. He earned a win in the 100 fly (58.79) and a runner-up finish in the 200 free (2:00.77) on Saturday after recording a victory in the 200 fly (2:10.72) and finishing third in the 500 free (5:34.38) on Friday. He now owns eight individual wins in his career.
