Colorado College Team; Trinity's Salony Earn Bids to NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee has announced the participants for the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships and Colorado College received one of the 22 at-large selections.

CC, who is the five-time defending SCAC men's champion, is making its first appearance at the Division III National Championship since 2011 after finishing fourth at the West Region Meet on Saturday. The Tigers were were led by senior James Settles, who won the individual region title on Saturday, CC's first regional champion since Jackson Brainerd won three in a row from 2009-11. Settles finished Saturday's 8K race with a time of 24:23.0.

Fellow senior Devlin Swanson finished fifth with a time of 24.48.1. In addition to Settles and Swanson, freshman Will Shuflit also earned all-region honors with a 30th place finish in 25:33.5.

The Colorado College women also qualified for the national meet, making this the first time both CC teams qualified for the Division III National Championships since 2007.

In addition to the Colorado College men qualifying as a team, Trinity University junior Will Salony, who earned All-Region honors for the second straight year with a ninth-place overall finish at the regional meet with a season-best time of 25:00.1, earned one of the at-large individual berths. Salony finished 17th at Regionals in 2022 and also qualified for the NCAA Championships.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this weekend.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top seven-person team automatically qualified from each of the 10 regions, for a total of 10 teams. Twenty-two additional teams were selected at-large.

Seventy individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.

Dickinson College is hosting the championships on Nov. 18 at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania. The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern, followed by the women’s race at Noon Eastern.

A live webstream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
