Trinity's Southwell Named SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 Award Recipient

GARLAND, Texas -- In a announcement made at Saturday's conference championship, Trinity University's Kendal Southwell was named the 2024 SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 award winner.

Southwell, a senior from Rio Rancho, N.M., currently holds a 3.91 GPA in Biochemistry. At this weekend's SCAC Championship, he earned all-SCAC honors in the 100 breast and 200 breast and was a member of the all-SCAC 200 medley and 400 medley relays. Early Saturday evening, he became the first men's swimmer in leauge history to win four consecutive individual titles in the 200 breaststroke.

Southwell is Trinity's third swimmer to earn the SCAC Elite 19 award and first since Daniel Sarman in 2020. His selection marks the 20th time a TU student-athlete has earned the league's highest individual honor - the third-most of any conference institution.

Established prior to the 2018-19 academic year and meant to recognize the best of the best within each conference sponsored-sport as it relates to both academic and athletic achievement, the SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC First, Second or Third Team honors in his/her sport for that particular season.
