Seven Teams, 21 Student-Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2024 NCAA Division III Track & Field Team and Athlete Academic awards on Monday.

In total, seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) teams, four men’s and three women’s, received the Academic Team award. Colorado College, Southwestern University and Trinity University received the award for both the men’s and women’s programs, while the University of Dallas men earned Academic Team honors. The Dallas men led all SCAC teams with a 3.81 GPA and ranked tops among all NCAA Division III men’s programs. The Crusaders posted the second-highest GPA among all programs across Division III. Colorado College paced the SCAC women’s programs with a 3.78 GPA, sixth best among all Division III women’s teams.

A total of 378 teams were honored for their academics, including 196 women's programs and 174 men's squads. To be recognized, a program must have at least a 3.1 cumulative team GPA.

In addition to the academic teams, 21 SCAC individuals were recognized for their academics. Colorado College led all SCAC institutions with eight honorees, followed by Trinity with six, Texas Lutheran with four and Southwestern with three.

On the women’s side, Colorado College’s Kendall Accetta, Emma Fowkes, Ella Fullerton, Gabriela Lues, Alison Mueller-Hickler and Isabel Olson, Southwestern’s Arden Neff and Breanna Steele, Texas Lutheran’s Leilani Lopez and Taylor Norrell and Trinity’s Ellie Catron, CC Gray, Danya Selber and Yasmin Subawalla earned All-Academic honors. Trinity’s Gray is being honored for the second consecutive year.

The All-Academic honorees on the men’s side include Colorado College’s James Settles and Josh Williams, Southwerstern’s Adrian Washington, Texas Lutheran’s Justin Freeney and Weston Guzman and Trinity’s Pierce Jackson and Nic Ladreyt. Settles, Washington, Guzman and Ladreyt all collected honors for the second-straight year.  

Overall, there were more than 1,000 men and women who were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes in Division III Track & Field.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who were accepted into the Indoor National Championship, are eligible or have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who were accepted in the relay at the Indoor National Championship (alternates are excluded), are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
