Trinity Secures 21st Consecutive SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

GARLAND, Texas -- Trinity University cruised to its 21st consecutive conference title at the 2024 SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship which wrapped up Saturday evening at the Garland ISD Natatorium. The 21 consecutive conference titles is the longest consecutive championship streak in SCAC history in any sport. The last time Trinity did not claim the SCAC women's swimming title (2003), most of its current roster was not yet born.

Trinity finished with 1,112 points while Colorado College was second with 837 points and Southwestern University was third with 661. Rounding out the standings, McMurry University finished fourth with 293 points, University of the Ozarks was fifth with 264 points, Centenary College finished sixth with 247 points, Austin College was seventh with 246 points, and University of St. Thomas finished eighth with 92 points.

Neely Burns of Trinity was named the Swimmer-of-the-Meet for the second consecutive year. She earned individual titles in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 breast and was also part of the Tigers' winning 800 free relay. 

Diver-of-the-Meet honors went to Emma Krasemann of Colorado College who swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions.  

The Colorado College staff - led by head coach Anne Goodman James along with assistant coach Ellen Walker, Jen Buffin, Adric Arndt, and Misty Banta - earned SCAC Women's Coaching Staff-of-the-Year honors. The award marked the fifth time she has earned COTY honors on the women's side.

Emma Krasemann of Colorado College became the 11th diver in SCAC history to sweep both boards in a single championship when she won the 1-meter board on Saturday. Krasemann became the second diver in school history to win the 1-meter and the first since Riley Wadehra in 2019. Krasemann tallied a score of 435.85, while teammate Keller Pooley was second with a score of 411.05. Trinity's Brooklyn Fuscone rounded out the top three with a mark of 395.40. 1-Meter Interview

In the evening session's first event, Colorado College's Emma Phillips took top honors in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching first in a time of 17:53.29. She became the seventh swimmer in league history to win the event multiple times, having won the event in 2021 as a freshman. Austin College's Sammi Thiele won the 200-yard backstroke with a SCAC championship meet and open record time of 2:00.38. The time was also good for an NCAA 'B' cut time. With the victory, Thiele became the first swimmer to win both the 100-yard back and 200-yard back in the same championship since 2018. Finishing in second was Alexis Lee of Colorado College in a 'B' cut time of 2:02.69 while Audrey Jacobson of Trinity was third, touching the wall in 2:04.93. 200-Yard Backstroke Interview

Amy Benson of Trinity recorded an NCAA 'B' cut time while winning the 100-yard freestyle, reaching the wall first in 50.54 seconds. The win was her third individual title of the weekend as she swept the 50 free, 100 free, and the 200 free. She became just the third woman in SCAC history to win those three events in a single championship. Teammate Kyla Foxhoven was second with a time of 51.63, and Caroline Myers of Trinity closed out the all-SCAC team with a third-place finish in 52.53. 100-Yard Freestyle Interview

Neely Burns of Trinity became just the sixth swimmer in SCAC history to repeat as champion in the 200-yard breast when she touched the wall with a winning time of 2:16.46. In doing so, she established a SCAC open and meet record as well as an NCAA 'B' cut time. Malie Hewitt of Colorado College was second after clocking a 'B' cut time of 2:20.57. Trinity's Emma Hagan took home top honors in the 200-yard fly with a 'B' cut time of 2:02.25. She became just the second different Tiger swimmer to win this event since 2005. It also marked the 11th time in SCAC history that someone swept both the 100-yard and 200-yard fly events at a single championship. Her teammate, Erin Morie, placed second while recording a time of 2:08.66 while Alyssa Tunggal of Colorado College was third with a time of 2:09.78. 200-Yard Butterfly Interview

Trinity ended the night continuing its dominance in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the Tigers won the event for the eighth consecutive time and the 11th time in the past 13 years. The Tiger quartet of Hagan, Foxhoven, Myers, and Benson touched the wall first with a time of 3:26.85. Notes: A total of nine SCAC women's championship meet records were set during the week including the 200 medley relay, 200 IM, 400 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 breast, 100 back, 200 back, and the 200 breast. In addition to the nine records, SCAC swimmers tallied 17 NCAA 'B' cut times.
