SUWANEE, Ga. – Led by Co-Pitcher of the Year and First Team selection Jackson Teer of Trinity University, seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) baseball student-athletes earned recognition with the release of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region 10 (West) Region team on Tuesday.
It marks the 20th consecutive season the SCAC has had five or more student-athletes land on an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team. Trinity paced all SCAC programs with two selections, while Centenary, Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern and Texas Lutheran each placed one athlete on the squad.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Teer, the two-time SCAC Pitcher of the Year, put together an outstanding season helping lead the Tigers to a conference regular season title and another trip to the NCAA Tournament. He returns to the ABCA First Team All-Region team for the second-straight year after leading the league with a 1.05 ERA and 112 strikeouts in just 77.1 innings of work for a league best 13.03 strikeouts per nine innings. Nationally, the junior currently leads all of NCAA Division III in ERA, is fifth in strikeouts and 15th in strikeouts per nine innings.
As an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selection, Teer is also nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-America teams will be announced on Thursday, May 30.
The SCAC also landed five student-athletes on the All-Region Second Team in Southwestern’s Maxwell Mims, Schreiner’s Aiden Warren, Texas Lutheran’s Adam Peavy, Centenary’s Cody Meyers and Trinity’s Jonathan Newman.
Mims, the SCAC Player of the Year and First Team All-SCAC selection, was also named D3baseball.com Third Team All-Region 10 earlier this week. The senior outfielder from Friendswood, Texas finished the year second in the SCAC in both RBI (46) and stolen bases (25), fourth in batting average (.374), tied for fourth in home runs (7) and tied for fifth in hits (58). Mims is the first Pirate to earn ABCA All-Region honors since Daniel Montgomery Jr. was selected back in 2019.
Warren, a two-time First Team All-SCAC selection, led the conference in hits with 65 and finished second in the league in both batting average (.408) and doubles (14). The senior outfielder also finished the season tied for sixth in the SCAC with 38 runs scored. Warren, who earned D3baseball.com All-Region honors earlier this week is the second-straight Mountaineer to earned ABCA All-Region honors, joining Gerardo Cordoza who was selected last season.
Peavy, a sophomore designated hitter and Second Team All-SCAC selection, led the Bulldogs with .524 slugging percentage. Peavy also tied for the most doubles (9) and triples (2) on the team, while being second in home runs (5) and total bases (77) and third in RBI (37). Peavy recorded 16 multi-hit games and had nine multi-RBI contests this season. Earlier this week, Peavy was also honored by D3baseball.com, earning Second Team All-Region accolades.
Meyers, a First Team All-SCAC selection, finished with an impressive 10-4 record with a 2.38 ERA in 16 appearances and 13 starts with a Centenary team-leading three complete games. The sophomore allowed just 31 runs (25 earned) and 84 hits in 94.2 IP with a 1.20 WHIP and 8.94 K/9. Myers tied for fourth in wins, tied for 16th in strikeouts, and ranked 46th nationally in ERA. Myers had an ERA under 1.00 for the majority of the season and ranked in the top 10 in the conference in IP and opposing batting average. This marks the second All-Region selection this week for Meyers, who earlier was named Second Team All-Region by D3baseball.com.
Newman, a senior pitcher finished the year with one save and a perfect 5-0 record in relief for Trinity this season. In 36.1 innings of work, Newman allowed just two earned runs to post a sparkling 0.50 ERA and limited opponents to just .225 at the plate. A First Team All-SCAC honoree, Newman also struck out 35 batters and didn’t allow a single home run is his 18 appearances. Newman was also named First Team All-Region 10 by D3baseball.com earlier this week.
Junior pitcher Adrian Montenegro of University of Dallas rounded out the SCAC All-Region selections, earning Third Team.
Montenegro, a Second Team All-SCAC selection, finished the year third in the SCAC with 88 strikeouts, tied for third with seven wins, fourth in innings pitched (80.0) and sixth with a 2.93 ERA. Montenegro’s selection marks the first for the University of Dallas program since Nathan Patton earned the honor in 2018.
