Lenny Forth, Centenary College, Baseball - Character & Community

LENNY FORTH OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore outfielder on the baseball team from Flower Mound, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning March 11.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Lenny Forth admitted that prior to his arrival at Centenary two years ago, he was not familiar with the school as it was no on his radar. But once he and his father came for a visit, he was sold – and now Lenny is thriving as a star on the baseball field, an excellent student in the classroom, and is an active member of his campus and local community.

Lenny has quickly made a name for himself on and off the baseball diamond. Last season he was named Honorable-Mention All-SCAC following a superb rookie season in which he was ranked in the top five on the team in three different statistical categories and finished with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage (tied for first in conference) as the Diamond Gents’ starting left fielder. He also landed on the SCAC Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll.

Centenary College requires all of their students to enroll in a "Community" class,” said Forth. I was recently enrolled in that class this past fall semester of 2023."

“I completed 30 hours of community service at The Lovewell Center which is a part of The Hub Ministry. I completed all 30 community service hours with fellow baseball player, Chris Dennis. While completing our service, we were given the opportunity to socialize and help out some less fortunate individuals in the Downtown Shreveport area.”

“Earlier this year we were given the opportunity to teach educational lessons at a local elementary school which was a very rewarding experience as well.”

“I was looking for a place to continue my baseball career after playing in high school at Flower Mound HS, but I had two shoulder surgeries which set me back when it came to getting recruited.”

"During the fall of my senior year of high school I was still was looking for a four-year college where I could possible continue my career. Centenary assistant coach Cody Crowder contacted me about potentially coming on a visit. I had never heard of Centenary College before but I attended a school visit with my dad and we were both surprised by the school. A couple of weeks went by, and as a family we determined that Centenary was going to be my next home.”

“Baseball is a very rewarding sport. Often times, people say that the game of baseball will reward you if you play the game correctly and work hard. You can also fail in baseball seven out of 10 times when it comes to hitting, and still be considered a great player. With baseball, you have to stay consistent with the work that you put into it. If you are consistently putting in hard work and dedicating time to the game, you are putting yourself in a good position. With that being said, I feel as if I have my priorities straight. I know that I have to work hard in the classroom and in all other aspects of my life if I want to have the opportunity to practice and play the game of baseball.”

“Baseball has always been a huge part of my life, and has taught me to appreciate everything. Getting injured in HS has taught me to always appreciate getting to play the game. Every day that you get to live and do whatever you love is a great day and should never be taken for granted because it can be taken away from you any second.”

“It feels amazing, and I am very honored to be featured for this award. There are a lot of great people at Centenary who have guided me in the direction I am going.”

“Arriving here at Centenary and being a part of this baseball program has enhanced my drive and work ethic to be the best version of myself I can be. I definitely have enjoyed my time at Centenary, and there are many more memories to be made!”
