NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – Following the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, Trinity University sits in 17th heading into tomorrow's second round. The 72-hole championships are being held at Keene Run in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Live Stats
The Tigers, playing the par-72 5,846 yard Keene Run track, fired an opening round 320 (+32), 10-shots behind a spot in the top-10 and just three shots off a spot in the top-15. Trinity opened the Championships by combining for 48 pars through the opening 18-holes, tied for the eighth most in the entire field.
The 2022 NCAA Champions, Emory currently leads the field after firing an opening round 295 (+7). The Eagles were one of just two teams the opened the NCAA Championships with a team score under 300. Carnegie Mellon sits in second after an opening team round of 298 (+10).
Individually, Trinity currently has two athletes in the top-35, led by junior Alejandra Sanchez De La Fuente Molino. Molino shot a four-over opening round of 76 and currently sits in a tie for 22nd. She finished the day with 12 pars and is one of just 29 athletes in the field of 150 with three or more birdies. Rounding out the Tigers in the top-35 is sophomore Jessica Mason who is currently tied for 35th. Mason, who is tied for third in the entire field with 13 pars, shot an opening round 77 (+5). UT-Dallas’ Karen Lee is your individual opening round leader after firing a four-under score of 68.
Round two gets underway on Wednesday as Trinity is scheduled to tee-off hole 10 at 1:30 p.m. local time. The Tigers will be paired with athletes from UT-Dallas and St. Catherine University. The top 15 teams after tomorrow's results will make the cut and continue to rounds three and four. The top six individuals not on those 18 teams will also advance to play for the individual title.
