Trinity Extends Lead After Day Two of SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship

GARLAND, Texas -- Trinity University used six top-three finishes to extend its lead to nearly 70 points over Colorado College on night two of the 2024 SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship at the Garland ISD Natatorium. Official Website | Thursday's Complete Results Photo Gallery | Video Interviews Playlist

With 357 points, the Texas Tigers hold a near 70-point margin over Colorado College. The CC Tigers remain in second place with 288 total points while Southwestern University rounds out the top three with 206 points.

Nate Perez of Trinity took home top honors in the 500-yard freestyle after he touched the wall in 4:35.01 to post is first SCAC individual championship. He became the 13th different Trinity swimmer to win the event and the first Tiger to win the 500-yard freestyle since current teammate Michael Kohl in 2021. Colorado College's Edmund Davis was second after clocking a time of 4:35.46 while teammate Lucio Bollettieri was third after touching the wall in 4:37.47. 500-Yard Freestyle Interview

The 200-yard individual medley saw Collin Ralston of Colorado College defend his title from last year, winning the event with a time of 1:50.06. That time established both a new SCAC championship and open meet record and was also good for an NCAA 'B' cut. It marked Ralston's third career individual title and his seventh career All-SCAC performance. Trinity's John Key (second - 1:51.93) and Ryan O'Leary (third - 1:51.94) rounded out the top three. 200-Yard IM Interview

Trinity's Kohl won the 50-yard freestyle, and in doing so, became the third swimmer in league history to win the event three consecutive years as the senior touched the wall in 20.22 seconds. His time was just one-hundredth of a second from matching the SCAC championship record and also earned him an NCAA 'B' cut time in the process. Teammate Nathan Early was second, clocking a time of 20.67 seconds, while Colorado College's Dax Sherwood was third with a time of 21.26 seconds. 50-Yard Freestyle Interview   

The Trinity men closed out the night with a win in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Kohl, Kendal Southwell, Trace Briones, and Early recorded a winning time of 3:19.20. The victory extended Trinity's dominance in the event and pushed their SCAC record win streak in the event to five straight years. It was the 11th time in program history Trinity has won the event. Colorado College placed second after touching the wall in 3:21.56, and Southwestern was third with a time of 3:27.81. 400-Yard Medley Relay Interview
