RABBIT BARNES OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior from Los Olivos, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 5
Competing against primarily Division II runners, Barnes won the 1500-meter race at the Chuck Haering Invitational in Pueblo, Colo., clocking a school-record time of 3:49.04, surpassing the previous mark of 3:49.87, set by Josh Fry in 2022. His altitude adjusted time of 3:44.22 is currently No. 1 in the country for Division III runners. Barnes also finished ninth in the 800 in 1:54.11.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Bryce McIntyre of St. Thomas was the top D3 finisher in the 400 meters at the Trinity Invitational running a conference-best time of 48.11 to finish in fourth place. He also ran a season best 21.88 for fifth place in the 200 meters. First-year Alex Bozhilov of Dallas placed third in the Texas Relays in the 10,000 meters as the lone Division III entrant while competing against 11 other NCAA Division I athletes and one NCAA Division II athlete. Bozhilov finished with a time of 30:32.68, breaking his own school record in the event by almost two minutes. Senior Jacorian Colbert of McMurry ran the 100 meters and 4x100 relay at the Trinity Invitational. He posted a 10.69 finish in the 100 which was good for third in a stacked 100 meter field. His time currently ranks third in the SCAC behind two of his teammates, fifth in the West Region, and 23rd in Division III. The War Hawks' 4x100 relay posted a 41.52 finish, which was good for second overall at the meet and currently ranks fifth in the region, and 14th in Division III. Junior Rickey Franks of Texas Lutheran ran 55.33 in his first 400 hurdles race of the season, finishing second at the Trinity Invite in a time that ranks 22nd nationally. Senior Thomas Hughes of Concordia (Texas) earned a third-place finish and new PR in the 10,000 where he clocked in at 34:34.71 at the Trinity Invitational. He also placed seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase where he crossed the finish line at 34:34.71. Junior Sebastian Loder of Southwestern finished eighth at the Trinity Invitational with a season and person record of 49.04 in the men's 400 meters. Senior Walker Reeves of LeTourneau set a personal best in the 1500-meter with his time of 3:59.54 to place second overall at the Trinity Invitational. It was the sixth-best time in the SCAC this season. Senior Ryan Tresaugue of Trinity ran a new season-best in the 800 at the Trinity Invitational with a time of 1:53.11. This placed fourth and is now ranked second in the SCAC.
