Cunningham averaged 20 points and four rebounds per game while leading the Tigers to a 2-1 record last week, including back-to-back conference victories for the first time since Colorado College won three in a row in February 2020. Cunningham led the Tigers with 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in Friday’s 93-74 victory over Centenary. The senior guard came back with 21 points and a pair of steals in Sunday’s 87-75 won over Austin College. Cunningham began the week with 20 points and a season-high six rebounds during the 83-67 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan. He now has four games with 20 or more points this season and leads the Tigers averaging 13.3 points per game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Seth Thomas of Centenary averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of tough SCAC road losses last weekend. Thomas connected on 57.9 percent of his shots and poured in 19 points in the Gents loss to St. Thomas on Sunday. First-year forward Kamden Ross of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to back-to-back victories over Southwestern, pushing their SCAC win streak to four, the longest since winning five-straight during the 2018-19 season. Senior guard Christian Alaekwe of St. Thomas led to Celts to a pair of key SCAC victories at home last week, defeating Austin College, 103-70, on Friday and then knocked off Centenary, 70-59, on Sunday. Alaekwe averaged 19.5 points on 57.7 percent shooting and added 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game in the two wins.
