JACK HILLIARD OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Monday, September 2nd. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 1)
Hilliard played a leading role in the Tigers, scoring 15 goals in the first two games of the 2024 season. The 2023 SCAC Newcomer of the Year finished the weekend with six points on two goals and two assists. Last Friday, he scored his first goal of the season against Fontbonne as CC’s offense exploded for eight goals. He followed it up with another goal and two assists against the Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday. Hilliard also had four shots on goal as his efforts lifted Colorado College to its first 2-0 start since the 2021 season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Pierce Wear of Austin College was a threat all weekend as the 'Roos opened 1-1 in a trip to Colorado. Wear finished with nine shot attempts, putting three on goal, and scored one goal and added an assist in the team's 5-0 victory over Fontbonne on Sunday afternoon. First year midfielder Emiliano Mondragon of Centenary scored a goal and tallied an assist, his first in each category of his young career, for the Gents in their 4-1 win over Huntingdon in a non-conference match on Sunday. Mondragon found the net in the 74th minute to make it 3-1 after assisting on a goal that gave the Gents a 2-1 lead. First year midfielder Jovani Burnett of McMurry headed in the game-winning goal with three seconds remaining in the War Hawks season opener against Lyon, 1-0, last Friday. Senior midfielder Michael Grimm of Southwestern was a critical piece to the Pirates’ 2-0 start to open the 2024 campaign last weekend. Grimm scored the game-winning goal in Southwestern’s 2-1 win over Methodist last Friday, smashing home a free kick in the 68th minute. In the Pirates’ second game, Grimm followed with an assist on the insurance goal of a 2-0 win over Hendrix on Sunday. Senior defender Diego Roman of Texas Lutheran scored his first goal of the season, lifting the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over UMHB on Sunday. Junior midfielder Adam Knutson of Trinity scored both of the Tigers’ goals to open the season over the weekend, answering scores from the opposition to salvage a pair of ties. Knutson answered a goal by Hendrix in Friday's season opener with Trinity's first goal of the season less than five minutes later. Then on Sunday night, he equalized again just 23 seconds after Methodist took the lead late in the 78th minute of play.
