DILLON MCKEE OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior first baseman from Lago Vista, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 6
McKee was fabulous at the plate last week, leading the Celts to a 2-2 record, including a series win over SCAC foe Austin College. McKee posted a blistering .647 batting average, going 11-for-17, including a perfect 6-for-6 performance in game two of the series against the ‘Roos. He hit safely at least once in all four contests, finished with three home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI and nine runs scored. McKee also walked twice to post a .667 on-base percentage and finished the week with an astronomical 1.294 slugging percentage, including a 1.333 slugging percentage in SCAC contests.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior infielder Aaron Gomez of Concordia (Tex.) showed excellent poise at the plate in a 5-0 week where the Tornados averaged 15.2/run per game. He reached base multiple times in four of the five games, leading the Tornados with a .632 batting average and an .750 on base percentage while not striking out one time in his 19 at bats. Gomez led CTX with 11 runs scored and eight walks. Gomez recorded seven RBI and posted his first career homerun in the series finale against the Ozarks. Senior first baseman Caleb Hohman of Dallas put together another outstanding week at the plate, going 5-for-13 (.385) with two doubles, one home run and seven RBI. Hohman finished the week with four runs scored, one walk, one stolen base, a .429 on-base percentage and a .769 slugging percentage. Senior outfielder Xavier Escobar of McMurry posted an impressive .636 batting average in a series win over Southwestern last weekend. Escobar went 7-for-11 with a double and a home run, scoring five runs and posting four RBI. He also added two stolen bases, posted an .667 on-base percentage and slugged 1.000 for the week. Junior outfielder Taber Childs of Ozarks went 5-for-11 (.455) and drove in three runs in the Eagles series against Concordia. Childs finished the week with a .417 on-base percentage and an impressive .636 slugging percentage. Senior infielder AJ Rodriguez of Schreiner paced the Mountaineers at the plate in a series win over Centenary last weekend. Rodriguez batted .333, going 4-for-12 with five RBI, one run scored and a .429 on-base percentage. Senior outfielder Christian Melillo of Southwestern posted an impressive .522 batting average in 23 plate appearances over six contest last week for the Pirates. Melillo finished with 12 hits, including two doubles, two triples and one home run. He drove in seven, scored eight runs, stole two bases, posted a .571 on-base percentage and slugged .913. First-year infielder Cooper Jen of Texas Lutheran was outstanding leading the Bulldogs to a 4-1 week, including an SCAC sweep over Dallas. Jen hit .381 with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored in five contests. His highlight of the week came in game two of the series against the Crusaders in which Jen hit for the Cycle and accounted for seven RBI in the Bulldogs 24-12 win. Senior catcher Nicholas Lazzara of Trinity led the Tigers to a 3-3 record last week, which included a four-game series split with 24th-ranked SUNY Cortland. Lazzara posted a .350 batting average (7-for-20) over the six games, scoring five runs and driving in seven more. He had a double and three home runs among his seven hits to drive his slugging percentage to .850, then also drew six walks to score an on-base percentage of .500 for the week.
