Jaelyn Simmons, University of St. Thomas, Hitter of the Week (Week 3)

JAELYN SIMMONS OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior third baseman from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 17 through Sunday, February 23. SCAC Softball Release - Week 3 

Simmons lit up the field this weekend, hitting .625 across two games with a home run, six RBIs, and four runs scored as the Celts picked up a pair of conference wins against Centenary. Simmons delivered five hits over the two games, including a double, and even stole a base, showing her all-around dominance with a 1.125 slugging percentage and a perfect fielding performance.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outfielder Malarie Mican of Concordia (Texas) excelled at the plate for the Tornados in a pair of 4-3 wins against McMurry on Sunday. Mican batted .800 (4-for-5) on the weekend, which included a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a stolen base in game one. She then exploded for three runs and three stolen bases in game two where she powered a triple and scored the winning run in the ninth. Senior infielder Tavery Ortiz of Texas Lutheran hit .571 over the course of the Bulldogs' double header with Trinity on Sunday, including a 3-for-3 outing in the second game. She also turned two key double plays defensively as TLU swept the doubleheader. Junior catcher Tauryn Alexander of Southwestern went 5-for-8 (.625), hit four doubles (1.125 slugging) and had three RBIs to help the Pirates win their three-game series against Ozarks. First-year catcher Isabella Husley of Ozarks went 4-for-5 for an .800 batting average over two games for the Eagles, including an RBI in Sunday's win against Southwestern. First-year middle infielder Madison Carda of Dallas proved to be a key offensive contributor for the Crusaders this weekend, hitting .400 over three games with three runs scored and five RBI. Her ability to come through in clutch moments was evident, as she racked up four hits, including two doubles, and posted an impressive .600 slugging percentage. Senior second baseman Jade Dickens of McMurry hit .500 on the weekend (4-for-8) with one run scored, one double and three RBI.
