Williams led the Celts to a pair of key SCAC wins at home last weekend, highlighted by a 72-65 win over sixth ranked Trinity on Friday night. The win over the Tigers secured a bye and the second seed at this weekend’s upcoming SCAC Tournament. Williams averaged an outstanding 31.0 points per game on an impressive 57.1 percent shooting. Williams poured in 33 points on 11-of-18 from the field, 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe against the Trintiy. On Sunday in the Celts’ regular season finale against Schreiner, Williams finished with 29 points and five rebounds in a 99-86 victory. For the week, Williams averaged 31.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-Year forward Teddy Tapken of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to a 69-63 season finale victory of Southwestern last Friday night. Tapken finished with 19 points, six rebounds and one steal to close out the season. Junior guard Jacob Harvey of Trinity averaged 22.0 points per game over the weekend and shot 13-for-21 (61.9%) from three-point range as the Tigers split a pair of games to close out the year. His best game came in Trinity’s win over Centenary as he tied a school record with nine three-pointers made. Harvey scored 32 points on 9-for-15 shooting from beyond the arc, adding a 5-for-6 performance at the foul line for his final tally. First year guard Kelton Coleman of Dallas came off the bench and finished with a career-high 27 points in the Crusaders 87-82 victory over Colorado College to close out the season. It marked the seventh-straight game Coleman has finished in double figures. Sophomore center Cristian Rodriguez of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a weekend split, defeating Centenary, 84-78, followed by a loss to St. Thomas, 99-86. Rodriguez finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in the win over the Gents. He connected on 8-for-14 from the field, including 7-for-7 at the line. Senior forward Seth Thomas of Centenary averaged 14.5, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists as the Gents dropped a pair of SCAC contests to close out the regular season. Junior guard Edgar Romero of Colorado College scored 20 points in just 13 minutes of action off the bench, highlighted by a perfect 5-for-5 from three in the Tigers 78-54 win over Austin College last Friday. Romero also added two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
