CARLY LANGE OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS (TEX.), a junior libero/defensive specialist from Bellville, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 16th through Sunday, September 21st. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 4)
Lange totaled 58 digs over two matches in conference play last weekend, averaging 7.25 digs per set. Lange posted 30 in a win over Concordia (Tex.) and added 28 against Texas Lutheran as the Celts went 2-0 to open league play.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College compiled 48 digs and averaged 6.0 digs per set in the team's road matches against Hendrix and Ozarks. Kovacs had 34 digs in a five-set match against Hendrix and added 14 in a three set victory over the Eagles, while also adding four service aces for the weekend. Junior libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led the Tigers with 33 digs as CC went 2-0 on the road to open SCAC play. She had a team-high 18 digs in a 3-0 win over TLU, then 15 in a 3-1 win over Concordia. She added four aces and 10 assists during the weekend, averaging 4.71 digs per set. Senior libero Isabella Martinez of Concordia (Tex.) averaged 4.36 digs per set in a trio of matches for the Tornados, posting 48 for the week with 36 in SCAC matches. In conference play, that mark moved to 4.50 digs per set as she posted 17 digs against St. Thomas (Tex.) and 19 digs against Colorado College. Junior defensive specialist/libero Maddy Hirneise of LeTourneau posted 25 digs and averaged 4.17 digs per set with three aces in LeTourneau's two sweeps on the week. She had 13 digs and two aces in a sweep of LaGrange before tallying 12 digs and one ace in sweep over Belhaven. Senior defensive specialist/libero Isabela Dorsey of McMurry had 20 digs in the War Hawks' SCAC opener against Schreiner and added three assists. First-year Lauralai Bradley of University of the Ozarks totaled 36 digs over three matches to go along with seven assists. Bradley helped the Eagles post the program's first conference win on Saturday with 11 digs and a .273 attack percentage. Senior defensive specialist Jenna Palomarez of Schreiner posted 19 digs to lead the Mountaineers in a SCAC victory over McMurry. Palomarez averaged 6.33 digs per set while adding eight assists. Senior libero/defensive specialist Richelle Guerra of Texas Lutheran had a career-high 34 digs against St. Thomas (Tex.) with 57 total digs over the weekend. Guerra averaged 8.14 digs per set after posting 23 against Colorado College.
