Senior catcher Erin Lewis of Centenary had a big day last Saturday on the road for the Ladies, splitting a pair of non-conference contests against Millsaps to open the season. She went 4-6 at the plate in the two games with a homer, two doubles, two RBI, four runs scored, and a walk. Senior infielder Kennedy Moody of Schreiner led the Mountaineers at the plate to open the 2022 season, batting .333 (2-for-6) with a double and an RBI in a pair of tight losses to Hardin-Simmons. Junior outfielder Sam Martinez of Southwestern led the Pirates to a victory in the second game of the season-opening doubleheader against UMHB last Sunday, blasting a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning in a 4-2 win. She finished the weekend 3-for-7 with a home run for three RBIs and a run scored. First-year outfielder Jayla Arenas of Trinity provided a big spark for the Tigers in key moments of the McMurry double header last Sunday. Arenas was called upon to pinch hit twice and came through with two doubles. She also scored two runs and accumulated a slugging percentage of 1.333 in her limited sample size.
