KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer student-athletes have been elected to the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American Team. Full Release
University of St. Thomas’ Taty Aleman and Daniel Castro, along with Texas Lutheran University’s Luis Green were among the 46 athletes selected. Aleman collected First-Team honors, while Castro and Green were both selected to the Third-Team.
This marks the fifth time since 2015 the SCAC has earned three of more USC All-American honors and the first time since 2015 and 2016 it has happened in back-to-back seasons.
Aleman, a junior forward from Houston, Texas, led the SCAC with 20 goals and 45 points on the year. A First-Team All-SCAC selection, Aleman added five assists and finished with an SCAC best 91 shots, including a league-high 52 on goal. He is just the second SCAC athlete since 2004 to reach the 20-goal plateau in a single season and his 45 total points is the most since Matt Fechter of Colorado College registered 47 in 2012. Aleman finished the year tied for eighth in all of NCAA Division III in both goals and points.
Castro, a sophomore forward, finished the year with 17 goals, four assists and 38 points on his way to being named First-Team All-SCAC. The Houston, Texas native, Castro now has 29 goals in 39 games through hist first two collegiate seasons for a 0.74 goals per game average. That mark currently sits ninth all-time in SCAC history.
Aleman and Castro helped guide St. Thomas to a historic run, winning the SCAC Tournament for the second consecutive season and making a run to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament. The duo combined for eight goals during the Celts final five fixtures of the season during that run.
Rounding out the SCAC All-American selections is Texas Lutheran’s Green, marking the third time in the senior’s career he has earned this prestigious honor. Green earned Third-Team honors in 2018 and Second-Team accolades in 2019. A senior forward from Monterrey, Mexico, Green closed out his career in style, rewriting the conference record books en route to claiming his league record fifth-straight SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year honor. Green stands alone with his career marks, leaving Seguin first in SCAC history in goals scored (81), points (182), goals per game (1.04) and points per game (2.33). A nine-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honoree during his TLU career, including three times this season, Green finishes his career tied for 11th all-time in NCAA history for career goals. In fact, his 81 goals are the most to cap off a career since Andrew Jenkins of St. Scholastica finished his career with 90 goals back in 2014.
The three SCAC selections mark the, 105th, 106th and 107th individual All-American accolades in SCAC men’s soccer history. All three were tabbed for the United Soccer Coaches All-Region X First-Team earlier in the week.
Aleman, Castro and Green will be formally recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
