Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. – Trinity's No. 19/20 women's golf team improved by four shots overall on the second day of the NCAA Championships, which is being played at the El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club. Live Stats

The Tigers started early this morning on the back nine, as opposed to starting on the front nine yesterday afternoon on the opening day of action at nationals. Trinity posted a team score of 322 during round two and tallied seven total birdies by four different players. Today was also designated as Folds of Honor Day on the course as each participant played in honor of a fallen soldier. Special announcements of each fallen soldier were made at each starting tee box and American pin flags were featured on holes 1 and 10.

The second round of action remained unfinished on Wednesday as six teams were still competing when play was suspended due to darkness. The second round will resume at 6:45 a.m. (ET) tomorrow, followed by Round 3.

Trinity is currently tied for 10th in the team standings with Illinois Wesleyan University at +64 for the tournament. Illinois Wesleyan did not finish the second round, though, and will be one of the teams up extra early tomorrow. The University of Redlands (CA) and Amherst College (MA) are both one shot ahead of Trinity, with Amherst also needing to finish the second round. Methodist University (NC) is seventh at +59 (643 total), which is five shots in front of the Tigers.

Alejandra Sanchez De la Fuente Molino is currently tied for 13th individually after shooting a 77 in today's round. Her two-day total of 156 is just six shots from the leader, though three players ahead of her still need to finish. Sanchez was +3 after the first three holes, then played the remainder of the round at just +1 – including back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16.

Kiona Hsiu matched Sanchez with a two-shot improvement from day one, finishing with a 79 on Tuesday. Hsiu was just +2 on the final nine holes and notched her only birdie of the round on hole seven. Hsiu is tied for 27th individually with her total score of 160 over the first two rounds.

Lucy Hansen shot an 80 in round two for a six-shot improvement from the opening day – the biggest jump for any of the Tiger competitors. Erin Flynn finished with an 86 today, with two birdies and playing the back nine at just +4. Hansen and Flynn are both tied with identical scores of 166 for the tournament so far. Erin Farrow finished with a score of 95 today.

Coach Speak
"It was a good day," said Head Coach Shelby DeVore after the second round of play. "The team looked more at ease and confident. It was also Folds of Honor Day, which is my favorite day of the tournament. It's a great way to celebrate and honor our fallen soldiers, while also reminding us that we wouldn't even have opportunities like this if it wasn't for our country's heroes."

Up Next
Tomorrow's third round tee times and matchups will be determined after the second round is completed. The top 15 teams after the third round will continue on to Friday's final round and compete for the 2023 NCAA III Championship. The top six individuals not on those 15 teams will also qualify to play the final round as individuals.
