Trinity Leads After Day One of SCAC Women's Golf Championship

Tomorrow’s final round at the par-72, 5,834-yard layout will begin at 7:40 a.m.

After the first 18 holes, Trinity is sitting at +26 and is eight shots clear of Southwestern which is currently in second after firing a first-round score of 322 (+34). The Tigers took advantage on the par 3s, finishing an opening round best just +8 as a team on the four short holes. Trinity had one more birdie than Southwestern - seven to six - but the Pirates did lead in par five scoring at +9. Trinity was next at +15.

Four Tigers sit in the top 10 after the opening round, led by Alejandra Sanchez De la Fuente Molino who fired a 75 (+3) and is tied for the individual first-round lead with University of Dallas' Kimberly Burch, who was the tournament's runner-up a year ago. Trinity's Kiona Hsiu, last year's individual champion, is tied for fourth and three shots behind the leaders after her first round 78 (+6). Lucy Hansen and Erin Flynn fired rounds of 80 and 81, respectively, tying for seventh and ninth to round out Trinity's top scorers. 

in the race for individual honors. Sanchez De la Fuente Molino and Burch are two shots clear of Southwestern's Isabel Montelongo (77) and three shots out in front of Hsiu and Ryleigh Erickson of Southwestern, who both fired an opening round 78.

Rounding out the women's first-round team standings, University of St. Thomas is third with 331, University of Dallas is in fourth place with 339, Schreiner University is fifth with a 352 and Texas Lutheran University sits in sixth with a 366.

St. Thomas was led by Trinity Le who shot an opening round score of 79 and is currently sitting in sixth place. Emma Luna posted a first-round score of 81 (T9) to round out the Celts in the top 10 after the opening 18.

Texas Lutheran's Wynter Flores rounds out the group of golfers in the top 10 and is tied for seventh after her opening round 80.
