CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars were announced last week, and 13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) student-athletes were recognized. Full Release
The 13 student-athletes match the SCAC record, originally set back in 2011, for the most honored in a single year. This is just the fourth (2011, 2012, 2020) time in the last 13 years the SCAC has had 10 or more athletes earn WGCA Scholar All-American honors.
Overall, a total of 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers from 378 programs were recognized with this prestigious honor.
Southwestern University led the way among SCAC institutions with six Pirates being named to the list. Seniors Linsey Garza and Madison Miller were honored for a remarkable fourth consecutive season. Senior Katherine Montgomery earned her third career accolade, while senior Isabel Montelongo and junior Mikayla Childers collected scholar honors for the second time. Rounding out the Southwestern honorees is first-year Isabella Valenzuela making the list for the first time in her career.
Texas Lutheran University was represented by four golfers earning WGCA Scholar All-America honors. Sophomore Braydee Frederick received recognition for the second consecutive year, while junior Audre Garza secured her second career honor, previously earning the award in 2021. Junior Wynter Flores and first-year Jaqueline Springs were both tabbed All-American scholars for the first time in their careers.
Trinity University rounds out the SCAC honorees with the Tigers placing three athletes on the list for the second consecutive year. Junior Kiona Hsiu was honored for the third-straight year and classmate Lucy Hansen secured her second-straight accolade. Sophomore Kate Schulle was tabbed WGCA Scholar All-American for the first time this spring to close out the Trinity selections.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. To be selected, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have participated in 50 percent of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 700 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
