TRYSTAN MALLORY OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore pitcher from Bonham, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 6 through Sunday, March 12. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 5
Mallory was dominant in his one start for Austin College last week, striking out 14 batters in 6.0 innings of work, throwing just 98 pitches. He surrendered just one unearned run and scattered three hits with one walk to collect the win. His 14 strikeouts are the most by an Austin College pitcher since 2007. This season, Mallory is 2-0 with a 1.23 earned-run-average and 31 strikeouts against just six walks.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Tyler Herrera of Centenary tossed a complete game shutout in the Gents’ 11-0 win over LaGrange last week. He allowed just four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Senior right-handed pitcher Joe Burch of Texas Lutheran pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on three hits in the Bulldogs, 9-1 win over ETBU. Burch would carry a no-hit bid through 4.1 innings before allowing a solo home run in the fifth inning. He struck out a season-high 10 batters to pick up his first win of the 2023 campaign. Freshman right-handed pitcher Dominic Gill of Dallas w posted a career-high nine strikeouts in seven innings of work last week in a win over Balckburn. He walked just one batter and scattered three runs in the win. Sophomore pitcher Gregory Ferguson of Southwestern picked up the win on the bump last week in the Pirates’ 8-0 non-conference victory over DeSales. He tossed eight innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out nine batters. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jack Martinez of Trinity earned the victory in his only appearance last week, leading the 14th-ranked Tiger baseball team to a split for the week with a 4-3 win over DeSales. Martinez came on in relief to close out the DeSales game, allowing one run on three hits over the final 4.1 innings, and tying his career-high with nine strikeouts.
