LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Week eight of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis season featured a national top-40 matchup between conference rivals No. 11 Trinity and No. 29 Southwestern.
No. 11 Trinity (11-8) earned a pair of 9-0 victories last week with wins over Wisconsin-Eau Claire and No. 29 Southwestern. The Tigers were dominant in doubles play, earning 8-1 victories in all three matches against Wis.-Eau Claire and 8-3, 8-4 and 8-5 victories over opponents from Southwestern. Against Southwestern in singles, No. 3 Cameron Krimbill, No. 4 Jace Akagi-Okuma and No. 6 Artur Zigman picked up wins in straight-sets. No. 1 Wilson Lambeth, No. 2 Wilson Hamilton and No. 5 Tilden Oliver each took extra set victories in the match.
Earlier in the week, No. 29 Southwestern (10-4) defeated Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 7-2. The Pirates swept the doubles competition as No. 1 Hunter Bajoit/Carlos Rodero, No. 2 Alexis Dimanche/Dean Dulthummon and No. 3 Alexander Josephs/Vesko Lekovic downed opponents 8-3, 8-5 and 8-1, respectively. Southwestern went on to pick up four points in singles as No. 1 Dimanche, No. 3 Joseph, No. 4 Dulthummon and No. 6 Rodero each managed straight-set victories.
Colorado College (5-7) played to a 1-2 week, earning a 6-3 victory over Hastings but falling to Seward Community College, 5-0, and Northern Colorado, 7-0. In the win, the Tigers fell behind early, taking just one doubles point as No. 3 Alex Kley/Alex Wimer defeated Joshua Sordorff/Brandon Lovato 6-1. CC went on to take five points in singles with No. 3 Jacob Adas, No. 4 Kley and No. 6 Wimer snatching wins in straight-sets while No. 1 Noah Foreman and No. 4 Christian Kitchen went to extra sets to prevail over their opponents.
Schreiner (4-9) fell to Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 8-1, on Tuesday, Hardin-Simmons, 8-1, on Friday and McMurry, 5-4, on Saturday. Senior Andrew Alright led the Mountaineer effort from line four, going 2-0 with wins over opponents from Hardin-Simmons (earning the lone point of the match) and McMurry while No. 3 pair Casey Voss/Austin Cervantes picked up the only doubles point of the week, defeating Joseph Diaz/Chris Causer of McMurry 8-4.
In its lone contest of the week, Texas Lutheran (4-5) fell to Dallas Baptist, 8-1 on Friday as No. 3 singles Nick Roccaforte won the only point for the Bulldogs.
On Sunday, Centenary (1-8) was swept by the University of Ozarks.
The SCAC men's tennis schedule continues this week as a several conference teams go head-to-head.
