LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s golf teams were in action last week at two different events, led by Trinity hosting Schreiner, Texas Lutheran, Dallas, Centenary and three other non-conference schools for the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
Concordia (Tex.) won the team title at the rain-shortened six-team event with an 18-hole score of 336, followed by Trinity in third with 346 strokes, Schreiner in fifth with 384 strokes and Texas Lutheran in sixth with a team score of 406.
The TU Tigers were led individually by senior Emilee Strausburg who finished second with a 10-over round of 81 on the par-71, 5,838-yard course at The Quarry Golf Club. Strausburg closed her round with a birdie to move into sole possession of second and finished tied for the lead in pars recorded on the afternoon with 10.
Schreiner junior Katelyn Smith paced the Mountaineers finishing in a three-way tie for 13th carding a round of 91 that included three pars. Schreiner led the field in par-three scoring with a 3.69 average on the afternoon. Texas Lutheran was led by junior Summer Swift, finishing 10th after firing a round of 87.
Centenary and Dallas sent a group of individuals to compete at the event as well. Freshman Abigail Hayes led the way for the Ladies with a round of 101, while freshman Tiffany Han posted a round of 105 to lead the Crusaders.
Southwestern finished 18th out of 18 teams with a three-day score of 1019 (347-342-330) at the prestigious Golfweek Div. III Fall Invitational in Destin, Fla., at Baytowne Country Club. Rhodes won the team title after posting a 54-hole team total of 920. Southwestern senior Valentina Olivieri-Puentes led the Pirates in the individual standings by finishing part of a five-way tie for 56th out of 93 golfers with a three-day total of 247 (81-89-77). Olivieri-Puentes finished the event with 25 pars and six birdies.
The fall portion of the 2018-10 schedule concludes this weekend as Johnson & Wales competes in the Wildcat/Cougar Duel and Dallas, Schreiner and Southwestern will all tee it up at the Hardin-Simmons Abilene Intercollegiate .
