LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Southwestern University earned a share of the SCAC regular season title and a bye in the SCAC Tournament this past weekend with wins over Colorado College and Centenary. However, Texas Lutheran and Trinity can still earn a share of the regular season title with the No. 1 seed still up for grabs.
Austin College
The 'Roos dropped a pair of contests this past weekend to Trinity
and Schreiner. Against the Tigers, Austin College found
themselves knotted at 61-61, but Trinity closed the game on a 13-7
run to hand the 'Roos a 74-68 loss on Friday night in San
Antonio. Christina Kime finished with 18 points,
hitting 6-of-9 shots and 3-of-4 from deep, and handed out four
assists to lead the 'Roos. Erin Riley and Brianna Harvey each
finished with 14, with Riley adding six rebounds in the loss. The
following day against the Mountaineers, Kendall Heitmeier 20 points
would not be enough as the 'Roos fell 68-64. Kali Vittallo and Kime
added 11 points each in the loss. Austin College moves to 10-13
overall and 5-8 in the SCAC. They conclude their season this
weekend, beginning with their final conference matchup at Dallas. A
win will give the 'Roos an outside chance of earning the No. 5
seed, but they will need help from Texas Lutheran and Schreiner,
otherwise, they will settle for the No. 6 seed. They will then have
their senior day on Sunday against Rust College.
Centenary College
The Ladies concluded their season with a pair of losses
to Texas Lutheran and Southwestern this past weekend. In a 70-48
decision against the Bulldogs, Rebecca Thompson led the Ladies with
11 points. Briana Edwards grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds and added
9 points along with DeiAnna Hall, who also supplied 9 points. On
Sunday, Centenary fought and took a 32-29 lead over the No. 1 team
in the SCAC. However, Southwestern exploded for 51 points in the
second half en rout to an 80-65 win. Jessica Bruti led
the Ladies with a career-high 17 points. Hall
tallied 13 points off the bench – her eighth of the season
– while Thompson added 11 points in the decision. Centenary
finishes the season 0-24 for the season straight year and 0-14 in
the SCAC.
Colorado College
Courtney Tyus scored 21 points and dished out seven
assists in her final game at Colorado College, but Texas Lutheran
took the Tigers best shot and pulled away for a 78-68 victory. In
her 100th game as a Tiger, Tyus became the 18th player in program
history to record 500 or more career rebounds with the last of her
seven boards. The senior guard also finished her career ranked
second with 417 assists and ninth with 1,032 points. Danielle Davis
finished with 14 points, followed by Korbyn Ukasick and Katie
Waters with 11 and 10, respectively. On Friday against
Southwestern, Colorado College were within eight points two minutes
into the second half, but the Pirates used a 33-15 run to close out
the 70-44 victory. Katie Worth tied her career high of 15 points to
lead the Tigers. Davis tied her career high with 12 rebounds and
added 10 points to record her second double-double of the season
and the fourth of her career. Colorado College finishes 2-23 on the
season and 2-12 in SCAC play.
University of Dallas
The Crusaders went 0-2 this past weekend with losses to
Schreiner and Trinity. In a 72-65 loss to the
Mountaineers, Michelle DeCoud had a team-high 21
points while Sammi Tso added 17 points and Seana Stoia added 10.
The following day against Trinity, the Crusader offense struggled
as they couldn't get anything going offensively, falling 66-39.
DeCoud and Stoia led the way with nine points each while DeCoud
added nine rebounds as well. Tso added six points and three
assists. The Crusaders go to 13-10 and 6-7 in the SCAC. They will
take on Arlington Baptist on Thursday followed by their season
finale against Austin College. The Crusaders are in prime position
to earn the No. 5 seed, though an Austin College win, plus some
help from Texas Lutheran and Schreiner, could send them down to the
No. 6 seed.
Schreiner University
The Mountaineers guaranteed themselves, at least, the No.
4 seed and give themselves a chance to move up to No. 3 after
securing a pair of wins over Dallas and Austin College. Schreiner
trailed by 12 at half, but stormed back to take a 72-65 win over
the Crusaders thanks to a career day from Kelsie Jackson, scoring
30 on teh night while pulling down nine
boards. Sabriyyah Fennell was the only other Mountaineer
in double figures with 12 points and five rebounds. Against the
'Roos, Schreiner celebrated its senior day and the lone senior,
Brooke Sanders, did her part, scoring a team high 14 points in a
68-64 win. Jackson added 12 points and nine rebounds while Tylor
Rambeau had 11 points and seven rebounds. The Mountaineers move to
11-12 overall and 9-4 in the SCAC with the wins. They finish their
season up against Trinity, in San Antonio, this Friday. A win over
the Tigers paired with a Texas Lutheran win over Southwestern would
set a coin toss for the No. 3 seed.
Southwestern University
The Pirates clinched a share of the SCAC regular season
title and locked up a bye in the SCAC Tournament with wins over
Colorado College and Centenary this past weekend. In a 70-44 win
over the Tigers, Southwestern held Colorado College to
just 19 second half points. Jordan Owens led the
Pirates with 17 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor and 1-2 from
three point range. Annie Bourne added in 10
points to eclipse the 1000 point career mark. She becomes only the
third player in SCAC history to finish with 1,000 points and 1,000
rebounds. The Pirates followed that up with a 80-65 win over
Centenary. The Pirates came out sluggish and were behind after one
half, but responded with 51 points in the second half to pull away.
Audrey Garcia and Madison Eschle led the way with 14 points each
while Olivia Podaras and Eschle chipped in 11. The Pirates go to
13-11 overall and 11-2 in the SCAC. The Pirates take on Texas
Lutheran, in Seguin, on Friday night. Southwestern can clinch the
outright regular season title and the No. 1 seed with a win. Even
with a loss, it would take a Schreiner win over Trinity and a win
of a coin flip for the Pirates to lose the No. 1
seed.
Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs remain in the hunt for a share of the regular season
title and a bye in the SCAC Tournament after a pair of wins over
Centenary and Colorado College. In a 70-48 win over the Ladies,
four Bulldogs were in double figures, led by Bianca Casas with 11
points. Sarah Flourney, Taylor Dydalewicz, and Savannah Hight all
chipped in with 10 points. Things got a little tougher on Sunday as
the Bulldogs played spoiler on Colorado College's senior day,
defeating the Tigers 78-68. Karisa Cantu had a monster game,
finishing with 23 points. Hight added 14 on the day while
Dydalewicz chipped in 13. Texas Lutheran moves to a 15-8 overall
and 10-3 in SCAC play. They finish the season at home against
top-ranked Southwestern. With a win, the Bulldogs clinch a share of
the regular season title and a bye in the SCAC Tournament. However,
the only way the Bulldogs can earn the No. 1 seed is with a
Schreiner win over Trinity and followed by a Mountaineer win of the
coin flip to move them into third.
Trinity University
The Tigers bounced back with a pair of wins over Austin College
and Dallas and still hold an outside shot of earning a bye in the
SCAC Tournament as well as a share of the SCAC regular season
title. In a 74-68 win over the 'Roos, Hannah Coley broke
the school record for most three-pointers made in a career with
179. Taylor Hollins gave the Tigers a huge spark off the
bench, hitting 8-10 from the field on her way to 16 points.
She also pulled down three rebounds in her 19 minutes of
action. Bryony Harris also had a standout game with 10 rebounds and
three steals, as well as picking up three assists. The Tigers
followed that up with a dominating 66-39 win over
Dallas. Anecia Richardson was the only player in double
figures with 10 points in 15 minutes of action. Taylor Hollins came
off the bench with eight points in just eight minutes of play.
Trinity moves to 19-5 overall and 10-3 in the SCAC. The Tigers
finish the season on Friday against Schreiner. Trinity can finish
as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 4. With a win and a Texas
Lutheran loss to Southwestern, Trinity will earn the No. 2 seed and
a bye in the SCAC Tournament. If Texas Lutheran wins, Trinity will
earn a share of the SCAC regular season title, but will be the No.
3 seed. However, if Schreiner is victorious, the Tigers could fall
to No. 4 depending on a coin flip.
