LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - As most of SCAC Nation got their fill of turkey and stuffing, the SCAC women's basketball season continued as seven of the eight SCAC teams were in action this past week.
Austin College
The 'Roos went 1-1 over the weekend, picking up a victory
over Rust College on the road before falling to 25th-ranked Rhodes
College in Memphis on Sunday afternoon. In the 69-64 win over the
Bearcats, the 'Roos got 19 points
from Brianna Harvey and held off a late run
by Rust for the win. Christina Kime finished with 14 points
and five assists, and Erin Riley had 12 points, nine rebounds, and
five assists in the victory. In a narrow 54-53 loss to the Lynx,
Rhodes scored with 6.5 seconds to go to pick up the
victory. Harvey finished with 15 points and five
rebounds, and Kime added 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists
in the loss. Riley pulled down a game-high
10 rebounds for the 'Roos. Austin College will welcome in Hendrix
College on Saturday afternoon.
Centenary
College
In their lone matchup of the weekend, a hot second half
from the LeTourneau YellowJackets sunk the Centenary Ladies at home
on Saturday afternoon. Centenary placed three players in double
figures scoring as Rebecca Thompson and DeiAnna Hall shared the
team lead with 15 points each. The scoring totals were season-highs
for the duo. Linda Gomez Gil added 14 points for the Ladies marking
her second straight contest in double-digits and third on the
campaign. Briana Edwards grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds which is a
season-best for the Shreveport, La., native. The Ladies also forced
a season-high 21 turnovers on the afternoon. Centenary will take on
cross-town rival LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday before traveling to
Memphis to battle 25th-ranked Rhodes.
Colorado College
It was another tough weekend for the Colorado College
Tigers, going 0-2 over the weekend with losses to Rose-Hulman and
Whitman on their home floor. Sophomore Korbyn Ukasick scored 17
points, but it was not enough at the Fighting Engineers took a
59-48 victory. Danielle Davis added nine points, 11 rebounds, and
three steals while Courtney Tyus added 12 points and four steals in
the contest. The Tigers forced 20 turnovers. In the 77-55 loss to
the Missionaries, Malia Shappell led the way with 15 points while
Ukasick added 12 points in the loss. The Tigers will be back in
action this upcoming weekend, heading to Tacoma, Wash. to battle
Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound.
University
of Dallas
Despite a 24 point, 12 rebound outing from Brooke Hagemann, it
would not be enough to overcome a 13 point halftime deficit as the
Dallas Crusaders dropped their first contest of the season, falling
to Hendrix College 75-66 on the road. A trio of Lady
Crusaders clinched double figures in scoring with 10 points
in Sammi Tso, Michelle
DeCoud, and Holly Tonry. Adding seven boards
for the team was DeCoud and Seana Stoia, who chipped in seven
points in the game. Tonry added four assists in the
contest. Dallas returns home on Wednesday for a game
versus Southwestern Adventist University followed by matchups
against New Hope Christian College and Linfield College on the road
this upcoming weekend.
Schreiner
University
The Mountaineers dropped a pair of tough contests this past
weekend, falling to Louisiana College and Howard Payne University
in Georgetown. In a heartbreaking 50-48 loss to the Wildcats, LC
got a game winning bucket with three seconds remaining to take the
victory. Sabriyyah Fennell was the star of the game and
almost lifted SU to victory single-handedly down the stretch. She
tallied 18 points (14 in the second half) and grabbed seven
rebounds (five in the second half). Junior Kelsie Jackson had 10
rebounds to go with six points and freshman Jordyn Villa also had
six points to go with two assists. In their second matchup against
Howard Payne, the Yellow Jackets used a huge second half to take a
77-68 win. Sophomore Chris Jones scored 13 points to
lead the Mountaineer cause. Jackson had nine points and seven
rebounds while sophomore Olivia Lott and Villa also tallied nine
points each. Schreiner hits the road this weekend to take on
Prairie View A&M on Wednesday.
Southwestern
University
Jordan Owens of Southwestern put up a pair of monster
nights despite the Pirates going 0-2 on their home court this past
weekend. The Pirates started with a 76-74 loss to Howard
Payne. Jordan Owens set a new SU scoring record
with 36 points on the night, breaking her own record of 34
points set in 2012. She was unstoppable with 22 first half points
on 10-14 shooting. Olivia Podaras added in
12 points as Southwestern shot 45.6% from the floor. Against
Louisiana College, the Pirates dropped a close 75-73 contest
despite an 18 point outing from Owens. Audrey Garcia
added in 11 and MaKamie Place 10. Annie Bourne ended with 13
rebounds. Southwestern returns to the road to face St.
Edward's University in Austin on Wednesday before returning home on
Saturday to face Whitworth.
Texas
Lutheran University
In their only matchup of the weekend, the Texas Lutheran
Bulldogs took on Concordia (Texas) in their second matchup of the
season. The Bulldogs prevailed again, defeating the Tornadoes 65-57
in Austin. Taylor Dydalewicz was fantastic again, finishing with 23
points on the evening while Savannah Hight added 15 points, eight
boards, and five steals while Kristen Lye picked up 13 points and
13 rebounds including six offensive boards. Karisa Cantu was also
in double figures with 11 points. The Bulldogs will hit the road to
take on Texas-Pan American on Monday before returning home to take
on Whitworth on Friday.
Trinity
University
Trinity did not compete this past weekend.
Trinity heads to Austin, Texas, December 1, to take on Concordia
(Texas) before remaining on the road this weekend to battle Chapman
and Redlands.
